Just started Prozac!!

Took 20mg now

I don't know what will happen I'm scared

You will be fine, but may feel worse at the beginning as they can take from anywhere between 2 to 12 weeks to work...depending on how bad you are..try not to worry about needing to take them, they are only a tool while your mind heals it's self...stay strong my friend everything is going to be ok

Neil, start because you are putting off feeling better trust me i felt the same way as you do now...a ruff few weeks but you won't regret it.. stay strong...

Hi I’ve had these before and to start with they were brilliant but then not .I had no side effects the stupid thing I did was just to stop them instead of easing off slowly which I think applies to all ant depressants. I do know people who have found them so helpful they also known as fluoxetine which does not seem to have such a scary title .I can only speak from personal use maybe someone else will say differently .Your doctor must obviously think they are appryfor you good luck

I just started Prozac 20mg this morning and have given myself anxiety just over starting!  I am stopping 5mg lexapro so I guess I still have that in my system, felt odd this morning but not horrible

It will be ruff at first...stick with it...I was given citralopram at first but they made me hyper anxious..the doc said I must be hypersensitive to them so i started on sertraline which were great, but naturally had side effects starting up...headaches, toilet business, blurry vision, sweating in bed, weird dreams, but all went after a while, although I did continue to sweat in bed...very worth while tho..I wouldn't hesitate to take them again if needed.

You need to take your medication to get better. There is nothing to be frightened of, many on site have taken these medications for a long time.

Max it will be Anxiety and you need to allow the drug time to work

Hi Max,

I have been on Prozac (fluxotine) for around 15 Year’s. I have no symptoms I am aware of from it and it has been a big help with my anxiety.  I was always afraid of medication too, but I am so glad I found the courage to try it.  

I hope you make the best decision for you, don’t let the fear win!!  

if you have an opportunity to  get help with your anxiety it is worth a try.

SSRI drugs like Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft take 6-8 weeks to really take effect. In the meantime you will probably have a wide assortment of side effects-dry mouth, strange colorful dreams, tingling sensations, possible sexual effects and so on. These are all quite common and nothing to be alarmed about. They usually don't last more than a few weeks.

Keep your physician informed and give the medication time to reach it's full effect. If serotonin deficiency is causing your depression and/or anxiety you should notice a gradual improvement in how you feel in the next few weeks.
