I was getting up from a chair today and I felt an odd sensation in my thigh like something was pulling weird. I was terrified. Then it happened again a little while ago when I was getting up. I know my titanium rod was not cemented in but could it be pulling or is something out of place? It's not terribly painful but just terrifying.
I get that feeling quite often around the incision and thigh. In my case i think it might be the muscles as my surgeon says my muscles are still the size of a childs and needed to be stretched to make them like an adults. But i assume it could be the same tyoe of thing for you as obviously the muscles get weaked and during recovery they are healing from the process? I often find when im walking that the area around the incision feels very tight. I think its normal x
An implant, even uncemented, can't pull around just like that. It very probably was your muscles coming back to life?
Hi I also have had pain in the top of my thigh sort of into my groin after standing up ...sometimes I walk it off but a few times it has really made me yelp when I move and I have had to sit down again...after a while its gone as if its never been...I got this in my 4th week am now in my 5th....I am thinking its not muscular as I would think I would feel a sort of ache afterwards.....maybe tendon? I dont know..I am at the hospital for my 6 week check up in two weeks (so a 7th week one really) see what they say..unless it gets worse....everything is worrying at the moment I feel as if I dare not do stuff incase its the wrong thing to do.
Thanks Sarah. I did see my surgeon 3 days ago for my 2 week check up. He did X-rays then and said everything looked fine. My daughter would like me to go to the hospital or at least call - but it is a Saturday and I don't feel like waiting for hours in an uncomfortable chair in the hospital so, since I'm not really in terrible pain, I think I will try to take it very slow and easy and then call the doctors office on Monday and see what he says or if he wants to see me or do X-rays again. (Unless it gets worse.)
Oh i didnt know they did 2 week appointments. It really is probably just your muscles getting used. If they havent been used much then they are probably getting stretched bit like when using them and them hurting after exercise. I wouldnt worry to much.
Thanks Annie. I did see my surgeon 3 days ago for my 2 week check up. He did X-rays then and said everything looked fine. (Unless it gets worse.) I hope you're right. My daughter and husband have also suggested a muscle or ligament. I have been trying to walk around the past few days without a cane or Walker, and maybe lifting and turning too much, making the bed etc. so perhaps a day or two of rest will help.
Thanks Polly. I appreciate the encouragement and the idea of a tendon or muscle or ligament pulling is actually less terrifying.
I think theres a lot of odd aches and pains in the weeks following the op - some of its muscles , some of its tendons and some is nerves regenerating . It really is very hard to damage the new hip so please dont worry, unless you have a fall or something. Those
Pullling sensations are terifying though arent they - we all have such a huge emotional investment in these ops its not surprising we get scared when it feels like something is going wrong . my stairs are comfortable and generally i am walking around without a stick - have just been to local hospital to visit a friend and after negotiating the grounds which are a building site at present and having to use staircases etc i am absolutely worn out - had to call in at a friends for a cuppa and a rest before getting bus home . I think you are right to take it easy over the weekend and see how you go , unless of course it gets worse - big hug hon , am sure it will be fine xxx
Thank you so much for the encouragement, Bini! I just read your message to my daughter
Xxx
I think things are still very much settling down, I had the pulling/tightness on the outer thigh and still do when I go for my walks after 6 weeks. I wouldn't worry too much I've had numerous 'new' pains over the weeks, I think a baby has better muscle tone than me at the mo. I was uncemented too, I do think it seems a bit longer for us for things to settle seeing differnt responses on this forum.
hi pati,
after reading your responses, I think you might have overdone it a wee bit. ..
walking without aids might be too early. .making the bed too strenuous (90 degree rule challenged )...
good idea to rest and take it easy. ..tender loving care and be gentle with your self, darling. ..
it is still early days in recovery. ..
big warm hug

Thank you, sweet Renee. I am taking your advice even now
