Pulse at 115 for 3 days now. Can I pill in the pocket?

Hi.. This hasn't happened a lot.  I have afib and am flecainide (2 x 50gm) and verapamil (180mg SR) a day.  I'm mostly stable but I do go in and out.  Well all of a sudden I'm in afib and can't get out.  A couple of years ago I went to the hospital and it was too late to cardiovert so they just gave me an additional dose of verapamil (80) and and after that upped my daily dose to 180 from 120 and my flec from 1 x 50 to 2 x 50 where I've been for around 2 years.  I really watch my diet and exercise when I can and don't drink or smoke .. I'm doing all I can.  But this SUCKS MAJOR.  I can't sleep because my heart is going thumpety thump bump tharumble.... and my BP has been high on the diastolic (close to 90).  ON a good day, I'm 100 /60 and 52....

Question: have any of you been here?  what do you do?  My doctor has retired and I am under the care of a distant specialist in a distant clinic.  I don't want to sit in a hospital all day and get the flu or worse!!! Is it safe to try the pill in the pocket with Flec?  I've never done that. or been advised to do that.  What about taking extra verapamil?  Thanks  CD

If you are in constant afib and your not taking anti coagulation drugs then you need to go get a cardioversion within the first 24 hours normally. After this they will not normally cardiovert you due to the stroke risk. Before a cardioversion (if you have left it longer than 24 hours) you will need to take anti coagulation drugs for around 4-6 weeks then they will do it. Unless you flip back out on your own. Whilst you are in afib the stroke risk is higher anyway as the afib allows the blood to pool in the chambers. You really need to go to a hospital and get checked out. Good luck.

Go to the hospital , don't take more medication than you have been prescribed. Doing so could cause your blood pressure too go down too low .

Called the afib clinic.  Off to the walk-in tomorrow.  By which time I'll probably be back in Normal Sinus Rhythm!!  But the walk-in will set up an appointment with the electrophysiologist who is overseeing my condition but hasn't seen me in 3 years!!! I'm not on anticoagulation drugs. Instead I am on natural thinners (plenty of them)

​i have ectopic beats, occassional palps and afib. i exercise regularly , have a healthy diet and dont drink or smoke.

​i was put on flc in the summer 50 mg pill in pocket totally useless, so talked to my doc, and started taking 50 mg in the morning and night, which helped although i was still getting a lot of breakthroughs, so now i chop a pill into quarters and sometimes take a quarter as well, and this has really helped a lot, i sleep very well no thumpty thump.

​ive had the problem for over 20 years now, and the docs cardios seem at a total loss at how to treat it, its very frustrating.

​i also take an omega 3 tab once a day and a garlic tab, ive kin of had to experiment myself to get to this stage ,and now i find it quite managable, which is great.

​i was told to go on Bisoporol  as well but refused to take it because my heart rate is about 50 / 60 bpm, and this tab drops the heart rate.

​The only real time i get a breakthrough is if i go mad at exercise,( i usually swim about 30 to 40 lengths 5 days a week), or if get stressed over excited or overtired, so i have adjusted my life to compensate.

​Ive had all the stress tests, holter ,scan etc, and my heart is structurally in fine fettle. which is a bonus, and i see a cardio once a year.

​Although i will never get used to  the awful feeling when i do get these breakthroughs, its just something i have to live with i guess, and try to think it could be worse.

​As for flec is safe if you heart is in fine shape, i have had no side effects from it, ive been on it about 7 month now.
