I’m three weeks post Op, this morning I was in agony from probably overdoing it.
A few meds and a few hours rest and I was back on track.
Had a virtually pain free day so far.
I think I should take each day as it comes.
Plan for my exercise programme, if it feels wrong , step back and start again tomorrow.
I wish you well in your recovery.
Regards,
Brian from Dublin, Ireland.
Hi Brian, 3 weeks is pushing it, a lot! I’m early 50’s am 5 months post op, was walking fine on one crutch at 3 weeks but was cautious, probably 1.5k per day when weather was fine. Can now walk easy up to 5 miles but I am still a lot slower and still very cautious, know how easy it is to trip/go over on ankle and be back to square 1, slowly does it there is no race. To comment on O P, I can go up a hill, provided it’s fairly even, like a mountain goat, coming down the other side is a bugger though! Think it’s a memory of previous pain and not sure what exercise will help, any tips GA x

Thank you for what was for me a very timely posting. I’m at just over 4 weeks now from my hip replacement, and I too am delighted with the results. I did have a bit of a set-back at the end of the last week, though, which mirrors yours in a lot of ways.
Each day I’m doing two 20-30 minute exercise sessions as advised by the physios, and I’m also doing a short (and gradually increasing) walk via different routes to the paper shop – up to about 30 mins in total now.
On Friday I had an hour with a physio in the local hydrotherapy pool – it felt absolutely wonderful. Previously I’ve had half hour sessions. Then on Saturday in addition to my usual routine I did a little light cleaning (well, it was seriously needed after a month!) – probably had me on my feet for over an hour in total. On Sunday as well as the usual routine we did a supermarket shop (I just pushed the trolley – my husband did the physical work). Then as it was a lovely afternoon so we decided to have a walk along the seafront – probably a mile in total.
On Sunday evening – and again at the end of Monday – I had some nasty pain in my buttocks. It was difficult getting up and down from sitting and getting off and particularly back on to the bed. Much better this morning (Tuesday).
Reading your posting and putting it together with my own experience I think my mistake was to do a bit more than I was used to on three consecutive days.
Perhaps it was the same for you. In future I’m going to space out my more stretchy days with more basic ones.
Thank you for helping me to put two and two together.

hi John. great news re your activity. this is the sort of news that keeps me going whilst I experience this pain. its only when I look back I realise how immobile I’ve become.
I’m already taking lactulose due to the codeine but I’ll definitely keep it in mind post OP thx
