Hi, I am 10 days post op, my son came over from overseas to help me for the first 2 weeks post surgery but he is leaving on Friday (day 12)...unfortunately where I live (UAE) they dont sell socks aid device...any suggesions on how to put them on and off?
You may need to ask a friend. Also you can make your own. Cut a plastic container in half and what was the top of the container, make two holes at the top outer corners and string shoe laces or twine through and you have a sock helper.
Here in the states our large yogurt containers are perfect for this use.
Hope this helps.

great idea Dawn, thank you xx
Hi I believe if you get a plastic bag on your foot then place the stocking rolled up over the bag it should slide up! Or ask another friend! Regards Amanda
Hi Surafawaz, my surgeon does not believe in the socks so I cannot help. Do wonder about their use. My surgeon has never had a patient with a clot, of course it could be that his patients are low risk anyway. He does give us a months supply of junior asprin 1 per day. Could be worth asking your team for advice on asprin versus socks - hey a lot easier to administer
Hi Ann, I have been prescribed aspirin one tablet a day for a whole month...honeslty am not sure about the socks either but my doctor said they are good for maintaining blood circulation
I have been told I will have to wear then for 6 wks post op. My op is Saturday. How many of you hippies have worn them for that amount of time. I to will be on my own after 2 weeks..
Also do u were them 24/7
thank u x
Hello Gaynor. I did not have to wear the socks and from what I understand it depends on your BMI and whether you smoke which puts one in a high risk group. Of course some surgeons may use them as a matter of course. Your risk would be assessed at your pre assessment the so worth asking about it. I am low risk
hope this helps or at least gives you more info to think about
Hi Gaynor, yes i wear them 24/7 both legs, op only left leg. Doc asked me to wear them for a month.
thanks,
Many thanks
