Hi again, my husband has just been for pre-op, and one question that they asked was does he snore or stop breathing in his sleep. I felt terrible because I admitted that he did to both questions, and now he will need sleep study before they can admit him for an op. We did state that he had an op on shoulder last year and that went fine. Has anyone else had this and what happened, do you have to go into the hospital overnight or can you have it done at home ( that's the sleep study not the op)
Hi Belinda, don't feel terrible, you were telling the truth and they need to know this not just because of the anaesthetic but because of the area that they are operating on which is very different to a shoulder. They probably want to know how bad it is and then they will adjust the anaesthetics accordingly.
Just think of it another way if you didn't say anything and something happened on the operating table you'd never forgive yourself.
When you're having operations you have to be honest as it is risky business and they don't want any unforeseen circumstances.
Sorry I don't know what will happen with the sleep study but from what I've seen you need to stay overnight so they can monitor your husband properly.
Let us know xx
Thank you Katherine, you have made me feel loads better
Thats my pleasure Belinda.
My husband does the same when he's asleep and they probably want to now how long he stops breathing for. I know its always a bit scary when it happens but I usually just nudge him and he starts again. I think its because he needs to loose weight, as when he lost weight he didn't do it.
Let me know when you get the appointment and keep me updated. xx
