PVP results +/-

I am scheduled for PVP on 12/6.  Have nervous anticipation about the procedure.  I am not a candidate for urolift; the prostate is growing into the bladder.  doc says he can do other procedures; but, my best option is PVP greenlight.  Would like to hear other men's results.  How long was recuperation?  How bad was bleeding?  was catherter awful?  And, life after retrograde ejaculation for both straight and bi men.    Would appreciate any comments from those who have undergone procedure.  Would u do it over?  Happy with result?

Not to worry you, but I had GreenLight and it was a disaster for me.  (Permanent high level incontinence.)   I would ask your doctor how many GreenLight procedures he has done and how many he has done this year.  Make sure he's really expert in this procedure.

I am seeing a new doctor who is a professor at a teaching medical center.  He said that he used to do GreenLight, and had trained people to do the procedure, but we will not do the procedure or train additional doctors. He said the reason is that the heating of the prostate material by the green laser light happens when that light (532 nm) interacts with red blood cells.  He said there can be scattering of the light, and that spreads its effect to unintended areas of the prostate.

I have to believe that really good and well trained doctors are OK with GreenLight procedures.  Just be careful that you have one of those doctors.

I would add that my intial problem was nocturia due to median lobe growth.   I have read that GreenLight is best used on really large prostates where a lot of material needs to be removed.

I had green light TURP on 8-24... recovery was no picnic... I hate that I had to do this at 53...

Passing scabs the size of pencil erasers will change your life... bottom line make sure you have s good doctor

I feel like half a man because of retrograde

I had urolift in January ... dr botched the surgery and had internal bleeding and a second surgery that did not work

My second deceased young and good and cared

Again it's no picnic and it will change many things

I kept a diary of my recovery if you interested

Best of luck to you buddy 💪

Sounds like PVP greenlight is one of the procedures your urologist does, and he's only recommending the procedures HE does. There are other options such as HoLEP which other urologists do, and PAE which is done by interventional radiologists--and another option which is self catheterization (CIC) if you are not completely emptying your bladder. There are threads on this site that address these other options. Explore them and see if any of those are a better fit.

I felt pressured by my urologist to chose one of his procedures--he only offered suprapublic prostatecomy and CIC. My  large prostate is also pressing into my bladder. I chose to go with CIC, which bought me time to research my options. I'm thankful I found this forum. The information I found on this site enabled me to make a decision I am comfortable with.

Have you looked into HOLEP? From what I've read PVP isn't as long lasting as HOLEP. They both do a job on the prostate leaving you with RE. What are your symptoms presently?

Are you still CICing

My doc does pvp, heloc, and urolift.  I can choose which he performs, but he insisits pvp is right for me because prostate is growing into bladder neck and growth is predominately medial lobe.

Your diary might be inciteful. Please pass on.  Sorry you didn't acheive the result you wanted.  Retro has me concerned too.  Although I've experienced it with drugs, and it's not so bad on its own.  But there are situations where it would be better to be able to shoot.  I'd welcome any comments from others with retro.

Symptoms are frequent urination, unable to empty bladder, 1-4 times up at night to pee, dribbling, weak stream,

he does several procedures and wrote a paper on the subject that many other doctors have used in their practices.  Not feeling pressured as he has stated he will do Heloc, PVP or urolift at my choice but recommends PVP as he has done many and with good result..  Hard to imagine climax without "juice". though.  Haven't yet wrapped my brain around that.

Hello my friend.  If I were you  I would never like them do that to me.  There are alot of men on here that have had bad out comes with many of the procedure.  Start with something less invasive.  PAE is good to start I don't know way your doctor told you that he can't do the uro-lift.  There are many doctors that have pull the median lobe away for the bladder neck opening.  Maybe he does not know how to do that.  He would rather cut away at the prostate.  There is also REZUM  that may work for you.  Cancel the surgery and give yourself some time and get all the information you can about the other procedures.  Any procedure that you have to cut at the prostate will change your sex life.  You have a chance of loseing it all together and if you can you are going to end up with retro which sucks.  I can tell you first hand when I had it with a pill that i was taking the orgasm was flat and not having anything come out was like you did nothing at all.  How old are you my friend.  Doctor have a way of down playing the sex part and retro.  They tell us we are not having kids so we don't need it.  But it goes with the orgasm.  Which may be flat as hell.  But it is your discision.  I pray that you make the right one. PS.  Once you have your prostate cut you will never be the same  Ken

I had this 13 weeks ago - had also grown into bladder - complete success - no bleeding except a weak cordial colour 1st couple of days - pain during urination settled down after 6 weeks - frequency after 8 weeks - since then urgency has been settling down.

Apart from the pain weeks I'm completely satisfied. Should be able to counter the pain in this day & age.

Remember we are all different cases & doctors differ too in experience & expertise.

I'm in Adelaide Sth Australia. (Dr Spernat).

Good luck GM.

Ignore all this crap from people you don't know.It is a simple procedure, my catheter was out in the morning, minimal spurt of blood at begining of urination for a few days and life back to normal on day two. Don't do any heavy lifting and take a stool softener and you will be OK.

It is now the NICE procedure of choice in the UK, Sadly groups like this are for the failed patients as the others have no need to post as they happily live their lives.

I only stick around to try to get some sanity in the group. Quite frankly I've read enough stuff from trolls who probably did not even have the operation.

Friend had a very small prostate and had been self cathing for some time before having PVP in 2004 and has had no problems since.

The bladder neck area is the part that my Uro was able to avoid so no RE.

Your symptoms are similar mine. Most of mine are under control by taking Flowmax and fernasteride. I had bad bleeding problems at the beginning of my problems.. No major bleeding since March 2016. Still thinking on having HOLEP because it will most likely ( operative phrase ) stop the occasional bleed. When bleeding I passed multiple clots the diamter of a pencil and at 1/2" long. It was no picnic and I willing to accept RE to avoid dealing with bleeding again.

Are you on Flowmax? That gives you RE. Most men here are fine with RE but in the end we're all indiviuals that perceive thing differently. Many feel with RE they're less of a man. I don't understand that sentiment but I'm not them

derek, did you have PVP or HOLEP?

The laser seals as it goes. I was warned about the possibility of clots and scabs. Aftrer the PVP I had one rather bloby clot and one biggish scab and that was all. Nothing memorable after the Thulium/holmium procedure.
