Quad pain

I am six weeks out from THR on left side and now only at times I get a pain in my quads. It will stop you short and almost feels as if it is tearing. anyone else have anything like this. June

Sounds as if you are overdoing it, what were you doing at the time

Hi June, I have not had any Quads pains, sounds like pain transference, do you have a physio to ask, I do get a pain above the knees, when walking from time to time, on  the side of my leg, but could be me overdoing it, my last trip out with the backpack has tired me, but I am Ok, and walked up the stairs one after the other, with all that weight, well is a fair bit, and now will rest up, Tescos can deliver next time...Keep in touch Ian.

The quad muscles are actually at the front of thigh and they will also affect the side of the muscles in the thigh

Actually I was walking across th ekitchen the first time. Then i was taking laundry out of the dryer. Very strange.

Hi Ian, I too get the pain above th eknee more or less at the top of the knee cap. I could be overdoing it as I was very run down before surgery as the pain had gooen so bad it was hard to do anything. Thanks for your input and I will be in touch.

Good morning June -

I found out that many known and unknown muscle groups made their presence known (spasms and soreness) while doing more in recovery ... seriously ...

even my hands and wrists were a concern at some point and then I realized how tense I was --

Just be gentle with your self -

warm hug

Dear jhb, I am 10 months post left hip op and have intermittently experienced a sharp pain in the front of my left thigh. At around 4 weeks it occurred so suddenly and sharply that I actually passed out for about a minute. This followed a day of walking too far up hill. Around 6 to 12 weeks I experienced similar, but not so severe, pain on standing after sitting for a while for the first 4 or 5 steps then it gradually eased off. By this time I was walking unaided for about a mile a day. I hardly ever get the thigh pain now but it came back a few weeks ago when I lost my footing on a hill walk and came down hard on my left leg. I then got the same pain for about a week and decided to rest a lot until it eased off. I'm now back to full activity again without pain, except an occasional ache in my left groin. I also avoid running too much because the heavy impact aggravates the thigh.

it was explained to me that you must respect your body and what it is telling you. It is not just your muscles that are needing to repair but also your thigh bone needing to grow into and embed the implant. I have found that excersing in the pool everyday is invaluable as well as steady walking.

best wishes, keep up the recovery but let it go in phases and listen to your body.

Betty

Your reply was very helpful, I thought I might be a bit daft when it first happened. Never really considered my thigh bone recovering. Thankyou and I shall have to be more aware of how much I am doing daily.

June

Glad the info was helpful. Best wishes for the future.

Betty

FWIW, I think hills and slopes are very hard on your leg when you are just getting back out again. Try not to walk on hills and slopes and see if you do better.

Best of luck to you.

I find that doing my step up exercise is the hardest thing I do, like hills and slopes. Quads very weak and it just takes time to heal.
