Question abt these 2 meds and ED

Hello,

I have had trouble with ED for some time, the last few years to be exact. Have not had a full, strong erection but a couple of times in 5 years or so. I am Type II diabetic but have had it under control and at normal levels for the last few months. A friend told me her husband had ED and found out it was his BP medicine and he got a different kind and his ED problem went away. I got to thinking that my problems started when the VA doc put me on the following meds;

I take Lisinipril for Blood Pressure and Simvastaten for Cholestrol. I just looked them up and both hhave as a side effect ED, etc. If I stop taking them, if that is the problem, how long will it take for my ED to go away and my erectile business get back to normal and be able to have erections again? I did not have high bp or cholesterol problems too much before the VA doc put me on them, don't now why he put me on those meds.

Thanks,

DE

My advice - I think most of our problems are caused by our lifestyles, mostly our diet and habits. I think statistics will bear me out. I will bet that no alcohol, no tobacco, greatly reduced suger - never any soft drinks, candy bars, etc, a body mass index of 25 or less, hard exercise daily including plenty of sweating and breathing hard, including a membership at the gym, get that six-pack gut showing, all of these will eliminate your diabetes and chloresterol, ed problems. All I'm suggesting is to treat your body as millions of years of evolution intended. Our ancestors worked hard, ate healthy because there was no choice and gave us these wonderful bodies that we must take care of. Our bodies and minds were not intended for the daily abuse they must endure. That is the solution to your problem, you can look great, feel great and be screwing your brains out. It's up to you.

Hey Freebooter

a few things - in the UK starting diabetics on an ACE inhibitor (like lisinopril) and a cholesterol pill (like simvastatin) is standard practice based on clinical evidence - reduces your cardivascular risks overall.

I seem to recall that ACE inhibitors are better for ED than other BP medications, but an alternative like losartan or candesartan can be used if lisinopril etc is affecting erections. Simvastatin should have no effect and should be protective by lowering your lipids.

On thing though is whether your dr has tested you for low testosterone, since as a diabetic you are more prone to this and that could affect your erections and sex drive.

I think your GP will be relectant to take you off medication but might agree to a try off them both to see if erections come back for you. If so then you may have to then discuss the long term approach to preventative medication for your DM.

If your T is low then there is an approach for that - and that would improve your response to ED medications like sildenafil.

Hope that helps

Thanks Clay and Ron,. I stopped taking them for a week or so and after talking to the folks at the VA where I go, I started taking them again. I have gotten my BS down to mostly normal levels over the last few months, and as I said I go to the gym 6 days a week, and have lost 80lbs in the last couple of years. As far as ED, time will tell. I don't have a girl friend and not sure when I will have one anytime soon! LOL! I suppose if and when I get a girlfriend, we will see. I think a lot of it is jjust not "getting any" in so long, 5 years, has me very nervous and scared, no self confidence, etc, etc. But, time will tell.
