Question

hi guys, I have a question. so before I started on celexa I lost about 10-12 pounds (140 down to 129ish) i am back steady at around 138 pounds at 5’9. i am feeling vetter mentally, but my body does not have nearly as much energy as before and muscles feel a bit soft. i eat right and have a lot of carbs and protein and go to the gym, but taking it slow. is this from the medicine, been on 15mg for about 15 weeks now. my friends and family say they don’t see a difference in my muscles. i I just want some answers. does anyone have the same experience? got blood test and my in blood protein is normal.

it causes muscles to soften google it

thats a thing? is it more psychological? how do you deal with that?

Yes I lost quite a bit of weight and my appetite too..lumpy back of throat makes eating unpleasant.Am now tapered off to no tablets but still not feeling too brilliant with headaches and acid reflux and thick catarrh in back of throat and blocked ears and neck…all very unpleasant…Anyone else suffering like this on withdrawal of Citalosram? …Val

how do you deal with the muscle softness? I’m getting back into working out

im withdrawing, i do weights and walk miles a day

I’ve been on 10mg for 3-4 weeks then 20mg now for 12 weeks and I lost about 20 pounds after I started taking it. I’ve yet to get my appetite back but I think the past week it may be coming back slowly. I too have noticed that my muscles are getting soft, but I think that was due to not getting much exercise and sleeping a lot while going through all the start up side effects but not sure.

Hi Grounded
The same thing happened to me. I lost weight and noticed my muscles soften and like you, put it down to lack of exercise whilst moping around the house during withdrawal and start up effects. I am currently withdrawing and my appetite has improved and am starting to put weight back on. With more exercise I think muscle strength will improve.

Hi Val,
I had the symptons of the phlem in back of throat and blocked ears before i went on cit. im at 10mg for a year now. Im so much better. that phlem was from anxiety and leakage of my spinal column from a car accident. I had the opposite with weight i gained 15 lbs up from 165 to 180 now back to 172 and workout alot to maintain my 172.
What dosage are you at?
Will

I have tapered off completely from Citalopram. .perhaps I should not have done. .so difficult to know what is anxiety related and what is just a chronic acid reflux digestive problem😕

Anxiety is a mind game. How long were you on it and shat dosage?

What symptoms are you getting during withdrawal…I suffer with unpleasant acid reflux mucus in my throat and blocked nose and ears. have been off citalopramm 7 weeks now and was on it for 11 months Val

Was on Citalopram 10 months 20mg then down to 10mg…really do not want to go back on this but not feeling great. am playing tennis and walking through a sort of fog with my blocked ears and throat. .ugh😕

why did you come off celexa???

Hi Valerie
I get the symptoms you describe usually in the mornings. If I lie down in bed my nasal passages get blocked so I tend to use two to three pillows. I also get whooshing noises in my head/ears. The worse ones for me are joints aches and pains, stiffness. I get headaches, stiff neck, aching shoulders. Lightheadedness comes and goes but not as bad as it was. Tiredness is another. I just try to ignore it and remind myself what’s causing it for reassurance. I’m on 7.5 from 10 probably for a month now. I told my doctor when I had a med review but he just listened and didn’t give any advice about withdrawal. Don’t get me wrong, I took citalopram 10 mg for several years and it worked great for me, I couldn’t have held down my full time job without them. I can’t even remember having side effects with them. I started taking them when I had a health scare, given a wrong diagnosis which put me through lots of unnecessary tests. This was followed by a close family member dying. It was when I stopped and restarted, yoyoing with my dose that messed if up for me. I got so many withdrawal and start up effects that I didn’t know what was causing what and led me to getting a neck xray and being diagnosed with early signs of neck arthritis, this threw the spanner in the works. I take otc nsaids for pain, cannot take anything else, I seem to be sensitive to all else and it is a known fact that you cannot take nsaids with citalopram as they could cause stomach bleeds. This one of the reasons I am slowly (this time) withdrawing. I never had aches and pains to this extent before withdrawing and I don’t believe very early neck arthritis could cause this discomfort. ,So that is another reason for coming off, I need to know where I stand. I still get some anxiety in certain situations too.

So you’ve only tapered from 10mg to 7.5mg and are having bad withdrawals? I’m currently taking 12.5-- down from 15 for a month now. So far, no bad effects. Scheduled to drpp on down to 10 Wednesday this week. They say the smaller dosages are harder to taper from. Keep us updated on your progress. 

Yes, that’s why slowly withdrawing is highly recommended. Good for you if you are not getting any withdrawal effects.

10mg and below is when withdrawal tends to get tougher xx

Are you completely off these meds now? I try to track everyone and their prigress. I know you have had a rough time.

i got misdiagnosed with hand arthritis .and it had nothing to do with arthritis.it was a reaction of taking ziplocone with celexa together .as soon as i stop the ziplicone the pain went away.just be aware of these doctors misdiagnose with taking theses meds.best regards
