Hi, I've been hsv 1&2 positive since May of this year. I'm in a new relationship and my boyfriend is also positive for over 10 years. We've been dating for a month now and I'm ready for us to be physical now. Is there a chance that my oral type 1 can turn into type2 if I perform oral on him. I know it sounds like a silly question but would appreciate some insight on things like this. Thank you
HSV1 and HSV2 are two separate viruses (albeit related ones). The number has nothing to do with location. Seems to me you're confused, as there is no way HSV1 can turn into HSV2, but HSV1 can be passed from the mouth to the genitals (and would still be known as HSV1), etc. Is that what you mean? You had better find out which type you and your bf have, if you're not sure.
Thanks for replying. We both have type 1&2. I am a bit confused. I had read somewhere that my type one oral can turn into type2 if in contact with genital type2. I wanted to be sure of it.
They are separate viruses, so that's not possible. It's like saying chickenpox can turn into measles, which obviously it can't! But if you and your bf already have both types, then I'm not sure that I understand your concern. You say you are HSV1&2 positive, so you already have HSV2 if that's the case, and in all likelihood it's genital (HSV2 nearly always is). Do you mind explaining how you were diagnosed? If by blood test, which type of blood test (IgG or IgM) and how did you score?
I was diagnosed by blood in may. The test type was Igg. My scores were I think 22 and the other was 44. Quick question. How long would that kind of score put me in expose timing? Because I was tested in January prior and it was negative.
IgG is the correct test and if those are your scores, then that's a very sound positive for both. If your IgG test was negative this January, and with scores that high now, then you must have acquired herpes earlier this year. Can't say when, I'm afraid, but I'd guess earlier than later due to your high scores. Have you had any outbreaks? Also, if your bf is also confirmed to have both, then you do not need to worry about transmission or one virus "becoming" another, etc.
I had my first outbreak in late march I think then one tiny one about the size of a pencil tip 2 months ago.
Most symptomatic people experience their first outbreak within a week of infection, so I would say that you were most likely infected in March.
