Quiting Smoking-6 months out and still difficult

I started smoking as a young teen.I tried quiting oh about 20 times .once stayed quit for 8 months.Going for personal best.Appreciate hearing from you hippies that have or are currently experiencing this🙃

I smoked heavily, quit for a year, celebrated with a cig.  Do not be tempted!  Started again.  Patches are very good. I gave up again using patches and Nicolette puffer.  Now I use an electronic cig.  Not ideal, but I haven't had a cig  for 5 years.  Best of luck.  Don't be afraid of using an aid if desparate, just don't have a cig!

Hi Msky,

wow, congratulations ---- 6 months smoke free is such an accomplishment -

E-cigarettes are a good substitute for holding something in your hand and lurking on it ...

Give yourself a big pat on the back !!!   seriously ...

you already have come such a long way

I gave up 3 years ago, I totalled up for a month how much I spent and put the money away in a seperate bank account. (I smoked for 40 years or more) It's by far the best way I think, cos I can now see something for my money.  Hope this helps xx

Hey Msky, Congrats on the quit! I'm at 10 months quit now. 5 mo since my LTHR. Like you, I've been smoking since I was a teen. I've quit a few times but this is the longest for me too. I'm a member of a web group at a site called Quitnet. You might check it out. It has always helped me. It also helps to support others who are coming along behind you. You learn that it take a long time to become really strong in your quit. I recently kind of went through a pretty rough stage for a couple of months (we call it No man's land on quitnet) but just hitting the 300 days seems to have moved me to a new more comfortable level. Everybody is different. I think a huge part is the whole acceptance thing. At this 300 day milestone, it's like I finally accepted that I'm not a smoker anymore. it's just not going to happen.  Anyway, hope this helps. Check out that website.

good to see you again, gillcat  ... How have you been ?

time has flown, hasn't it - seems like last week when we "met" here ..

Thanks Renee.I have to go take a blood test for nicotine tomorrow. They are probably going to reject my surgery. My BMI went up.I had lost 77 lbs.I did so by exercising 5 days a week.I continued to loose wt after I had my knee replaced but with quiting smoking and the immobility imposed by the hip replacement and femur fracture I gained some of the wieght back.It just kind of stinks. Now I'm really frustrated😔

I did the Quitnet program.I did try put in Quintnet and got some weird Quitcoach thing where they then started sending things on RVs,"Coaches".I am still not confident. It takes a long time to see oneself as a nonsmoker.P*ssed about them rejecting my surgery.I am just very frustrated

I tried the E Cig and it made me cough something aweful. Congratulations on a 5 year quit.Thats huge.Im looking toward to getting past the 8 month point.Im grateful I made it this far.

hi msky,

Wow, 77 lbs. !!!

You are one determined soul ..

Not sure if I understand why they would reject your surgery ...

is this the revision surgery due to fractured femur?

will you get the reslult from your bloodtest right away ?

angel blessings

Hi Renee, We here in Norfolk are doing fine, no problems at all, I didn't have to have my other hip done, they put it down to stress and strain wgile the other one was mending. My consultant has discharged me completely but said any problems he was there. The only thing he said I could never do was kneel down as this puts all the weight on to the hip and that is not good. How are you doing now? Really hope your doing well now.

Big Hugs (((((((hugs))))))) for you my friend. xx

It's because I need the 2nd one done.Unfortunately I have put about 30 lbs back on due to immobility and I think quiting smoking.Once I get fixed I will be able to walk without that nasty pain and I will be able to move more.,and hence recommit to weight loss..So tough right now.I pray it gets better
