Hi again

I was diagnosed today with achilles tendonitis in my right heel and a bakers cyst behind my left knee. I have been in a lot of pain lately but just put it down to RA. Are these things related to raise and will I need surgery at all?

hienglish rose I have bakers cyst in both knees but no surgery yest I was injections into the cysts help the disperse if they leak into the knees the course swelling leg to go hard it is a RA related I have advanced rheaumatiod arthritis I have deep rooted bakers cyst until they grow otherwise left alone

Hi Chrissy thanks for that. Fed up with all this now. It's one thing after another. I've started walking on my toes so not to put pressure on my heel 😔

I'm sorry you have another issue/s to deal with:  it certainly does sound painful !!  Perhaps using a pair of crutches for time to give both a rest...even though you have an issue with both legs, it may help to alleviate the weight bearing?  After having a long period of Tendonites in L) are, and after much un-invasive treatment, such as Physio and Hydrocortisone Injections, I ended up having to have Surgery, as with all "ites" issues, it means Infection, which means Pus can be the result, you will certainly have to keep an eye on same, and if primary treatment doesn't improve the tendonites, then, Yes, surgery may be a result.  Has your doctor suggested haveing the Cyst drained, via a needle with local anaesthetic?  Sometimes these too need to be removed, but as in the area of knee, an Orthopaedic Surgeon could do same in his rooms, with a local anaesthetic??? (must tell you that I live, and have only worked in Australian Hospitals, so treatment maybe  probably quite different in your homeland?)

Hi I also have ra and ruptured my Achilles and been left with tendonitis been told it is related and painful. I had to spend many months in a special boot. And had to sleep downstairs but fine now part from some pain and swelling

my gp gave me a gel to rub into the bakers cyst and said he might have to send me to a specialist for the tendonitis thing. I already see my rheumy consultant every 3 months but not sure if it will be a didifferent specialist for tendonitis? X

It probably will be a different Specialist, as these conditions are really only treated by an Orthopaedic (bone) Specialist....good luck

I've had baker's Cysts and my Rhuematologist drained the fluid from my knee and gave me a steroid injection. It helped. You need to constantly tell them when you don't feel good-it's the only way to get help.

hienglish rose same here im fed one thing after another but they say that want rheumy does get things one after enough sorry  for late reply no been welll shoulder musce spasm due fibromayaligia feel a little better if my cysts dont goe my need doing under orthopadic of if they bust like mine did course legs to sell up go ;like tree trunks and hard hope you get some help

Hi again Bronwyn..

I can't use crutches because of RA in my wrists/hands.. I have been walking on my toes (right leg) so I don't put weight on my heel. Haven't done loads of walking lately to be honest. My gp didn't mention draining the cyst on my left leg but he did give me tramadol for the pain. He said if the meds don't work he'll send me to another specialist. X

Probably not surgery. Tendonitis usually requires rest, and bakers cysts don'

t rusually require surgery, fluid drainage and injection , maybe

I cant give you much help on the cyst tbh but I do know the pain of tendinites in your heal. I was told surgery is a last option if treatment doesnt work just last week I went to rumtiolgy limping like I always do because of what I thought was my RA doctor examined my ancel and told me it was more likley tendinites wich is linked with RA. I was given an injection straight to the joint to try and treat and within two days im walking almost normally you shoud deffently ask about it I would deffently recomend it although I was told its not a long lasting pain relief just reduces the imflamation

I get fed up with injections for this that and the other.  It only masks the pain. Surely all these steroid injections can't be good for our bones?  X
