About 2 months ago my resting heart rate would sometimes be 115per minute, the doctor has put me on beta blockers and I am going for a 24hr epg- although the doctor told me it was nothing to worry about. My anxiety is 80% of the time at night- I hate sleeping/ being alone at night time and it causes me to wake up gasping for air sometimes/having really uncomfortable dreams, tonight I sitting up worrying about my heart rate, I feel it fast and loud although whenever I take my heart rate it's 85 beats per minute, does anyone have any techniques for slowing down heart rate/calming down? As nothing seems to be working right now. Even tho my doctor told me there is nothin to worry about I still am worried, if I have a drink my heart starts racing and I fear it has never done this before, also even waking into a different room will make my heart race! Has anyone experienced the same?? Thanks
along with betablocker go for relaxing techiniques i.e. Yoga exercises etc. you can join some club for that. i am sure you will be fine.
sorry you're feeling upset about that! in addition to yoga, deep slow breathing, and having a go at a guided meditation, you can also use a cold pack on your neck or on your chest. You can drink icy cold water in big but slow gulps, so you really feel it going down past your heart. You can also gently massage one side of your neck (only one side - if you do both you could pass out). That can slow your racing down. Tips I have from my doctor to help and they do!
I had several months of this and also had beta blockers for a while, mine was attributed to hormones (menopausal). Still get it at times but no-where near as often or as bad, so please take some comfort that it will pass. One ti I was given was to pinch your nostrils closed with your fingers and with your mouth closed, blow..like you would if trying to pop your ears on a plane...don't do it for too long as it can make you very lightheaded and sit down whilst doing it just in case. An A and E nurse taught me this technique and said they often get patients to blow into a large syringe for the same effect..don't breathe into a paper bag, you will breathe in too much co2 and may faint! (Only do this if the racing heart beat is due to non-heart related reasons! otherwise get medical advice)...good luck, x
