Maybe somone can give me their thoughts.
I was urinating very frequently, usually small anounts. Did a home urine dip test and found white and red blood cells (no nitrate) so went to Dr. who took blood. Blood results = slighly raised creatinine 102 micromol/l, urea 7,3mmol/land potassium 5,05 mmol/l. (At a routine test a year ago creatinine was 62 micromol/l so its a big change)What could this mean? Havent been able to see Dr yet.Have a follow ip appointment in a week.

Hello ray91776 - the frequency could be simply due to a UTI (urinary tract infection). Your raised creatinine is exactly the same as mine (although mine has been even higher). My increase is mostly due to a side effect of blood pressure medication but I also have chronic kidney disease (have had only ne kidney for some 60 years. When you get your blood test results, ask what your eGFR level is - if normal, hopefully that will rule out anything untoward with your kidney function.
PS - your urea and potassium are within the normal range.
Must remind you that we are not doctors or medical staff of any kind.
Unless my condition, was by chance similar to yours I wouldn't be able to help.
My only experience is Nephrotic Syndrome. Now, I didn't go to the doctors until my symtoms were serious and to think back eight months the G.P. obviously had no idea because he gave me a prescription for Ibuprofen! (84 pills)Noted to be destructive to kidneys. So please, don't hesitate, get into the G.P.'s no-matter what the trouble and keep going until you get an answer. Read the information carefully on any drugs supplied.
Now you are not alone this is a good supportive site, but it cannot replace the medical services. Please remember the crying baby gets the milk! So keep going and get the best support that you can.

Thxs for yr reply. Was in hospital yesterday. Ultrasound showed left sided grade 3 congestion of kidney ie a blockage which looked chronic. They thought it might be a stone but CT showed it wasnt. As I have no fever or pain I could go home for weekend. Next week scintigraphy and CT with contrast to try to find out whats causing blockage! GFR is 54 so not good.

Considering you have found a reason, GFR doesn't sound too bad. Thinking of you, at least you are under treatment and medical care.

Ray, that eGFR is only a little low and certainly nothing to feel too concerned about at this stage. You haven't mentioned how old you are but the figure can lower a bit just as the result of getting older.
One bit of advice: before the CT scan, query with your doctors what contrast they are intending to use. There are a couple of different dyes and my consultant told me that one is safer for the kidney function than the other, but I'm sorry that at this moment I can't remember which. But my kidney function started to reduce following a CT scan with contrast some 8/9 years ago - unfortunately I didn't know then what I know now!
At least it sounds as though you are being well monitored, and are not in any pain, so lots of good luck wishes for next week's test results, and do come back and let us know how you are getting on.
Thanks for all the advice and support. It was very clear to see on the ultrasound that the left kidney is very congested. But there what no stones on the normal CT so they have to try and find out what is the cause. Crea is not super high but considering I had a routine blood examination not long ago and it was 62 the fact that it's now suddenly 102 is a big change. Together with the ultrasound which showed the kidney tissue itself looking shrunked and irregular. what worries me is that my blood pressure is much higher than usual. I usually have very low blood pressure 90/60 and it's now about 140/90 hope to know more next week and will post then. Will be very calm careful with the contrast fluid.
Oh and Im an otherwise healthy 44 female 160cm 49kilos

Sorry that ill-health has hit you. When I had high creatanine levels over 100 +
it caused constant vomiting and diarrhoea. Most unpleasant experience.!
Hope that a treatment regime will soon be in place for you to get back to your normal life.

thxs again for yr support. I feel fine but since this is clearly chronic that isnt completely surprising (think id have pain and nausea if it was acute) Just slowly getting nervous about whats causing the stricture. I just think its unlikely that a stricture id had from birth would cause problems at 44. I had one ectopic pregnancy but this was 9 years ago and on the other side and detected very very early and removed by laparoscopy so i doubt there would be damage on the other side that would become apparent 9 yrs later. my kids were born by c/s so i wondered if this could cause scar tissue that effects me years later. Well as u can see i just want to know whats causing the blockage. I guess it must be above the bladder otherwise both kidneys would be affected...why do these things always start on friday evening and u have to spend tge whole weekend speculating...

Don't want to admit it but I'm sixty.I had intended to work on until I was seventy or so. This illness just hit me and I'd never been ill in my life before. Symptoms were very swollen legs and the nasty effects of creatinine.
Even now the specialists aren't entirely sure. The only way they could be certain was a biopsy on my kidneys.
I was in a small 'cottage' hospital for a month and they had no idea what was wrong with me. Their findings were, I wasn't getting any better!
I was moved to a city hospital and had a really nice room on my own, dialysis, medical care. Then they chucked me out. I had a further two weeks on dialysis, free ambulance. Oh! And lots of tasty corned-beef sandwiches, yum.
I'm deliberately vague here because of the warning about publicly visible infomation.
One possibility may be floppy passages and blood vessels, possibly treated by stents, obviously not as serious as heart operations. So I'm sure a reason for this will soon be found, whatever the outcome.
I'm off to my youngest son's for lunch today. Where a seven year old and a three year old are longing to chuck copious amounts of water all over me.

Thxs for sharing yr "story" and feeling much empathy! Sorry to be brief. Just found out my left kidney is only working 14%, might be a problem with right one too. They still dont know whsts caused the blockage or if I will lose my left kidney. Very upset but wanted to fill u in...

I'm so sorry, it must be an awful time for you. I must be honest, i don't know what to write. so wish i could come out with some wonderful news that would inspire you but I can't. But that lovely lady (Mrs.O) said she has lived with one kidney for 60 years.!! So compared to that, you and me are doing well!
I don't want to bore you with my tales of woe, but it was a bit more than a hospital mess-up. But I'm able to get out and help other people, drive where I like and I don't go hungry so I've got much to be grateful for. Think, not sure, so long as your renal system is working at more than 10% you probably won't need dialysis.
And you did say you had 14% !!
So stick to the diet like glue !! And if you do have dialysis, it's just a rest, don't despair.

Ray, not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure, but please let me reassure you that if you do have to have your left kidney removed, you will continue to live normally and enjoy life in the future. I had my right kidney removed 60 years ago. It isn't such a major operation these days - many people are having kidneys removed to give to friends and loved ones whose kidneys have both failed. The local vet who has treated our animals in recent years received a kidney from her hubby when her's both failed - she is raising a family, working full time and is a picture of health.

It's nice to think we can sometimes help others from our own experiences, although always remembering that each one of us is a little different so therefore, even with a similar illness, can present a little differently with our symptoms and respond a little differently to our treatment.
It sounds as though you've had a bit of a rough patch yourself, but keep up that positive approach of your's and I'm sure that will stand you in good stead.

Thxs so much, just very shocked because I had virtually no symptoms, no pain, no fever, no other signs of infection. it feels a bit like last week I was a totally healthy person and this week it's completely different and yet nothing happened symptomwise. My left kidney is working 14% according to the szintigraphy. this also shows that my right kidney is working szintigraphicallt but that my overall clearance is reduced suggesting the problem might not be limited to the left kidney which doesn't really add up since the left kidney is congested suggesting that there is a blockage somewhere in the ureter/calyx. I will have an MRI tomorrow evening and hopefully the cause of the blockage will be evident and then they will put a stent (double-J) in as soon as possible to try and relieve the kidney and see if we can save some of its function. Im just so exhausted and shocked from the events of the last 6 days!
