Ramapril

I have just started getting joint pain and insomnia and am on 2.5 Ramapril. Been on them for 3 years but these are new side effects. I have just been told that it depends on which chemist you get them from.

Anybody had this experience?

It's not the Chemist so much as the brand of Ramipril. I was OK (apart from the joint pain!) until the Chemist was sent a cheaper brand.I suddenly developed an awful dry cough. My chemist now gets the other brand in batches just for me. Still hate taking the stuff!

Hi Heather

Didn't realise there were diferent brands of Ramipril, but I came off mine completely because of the feet and leg pain.

It's the same active ingredient, but with different fillers and it's the fillers that seem to cause the problems (most of the time!) It's the same with a lot of meds AND cheap supplements.

its disgraceful what they put in these mess. I'm left with no blood pressure mess as I couldn't get an appointment with a Doctor for 5 weeks, so they said they would get him to phone me 5 days after speaking to the receptionist, the doc didn't phone, he could have at least written me another prescription, but didn't do it, I had to come off the Ramipril as it was practically making me a cripple. 😔

Should say meds, not mess lol 😁

That's awful. I must say my GP is excellent at getting back to me or speaking to me when I phone. He is phoning me this morning to see if I can get a new prescription. I will keep you informed. Hope you get well soon 🙂

What Country are you in Heather? I'm in Scotland u.k

So am I x

Lol, you must be in a good part, it's murder getting apps in Stevenston. 😁

Doc just phoned and said it could be fibromyalgia - what next!!!!

Sorry to hear that 😳, that's sometimes a heriditary related disease, anyone in your family got it? Doc could be wrong though, their often wrong with diagnosis. Hope you will be ok. 😉

Nobody in the family has had that. Had to go on the BP tablets after my Mother died and when I googled fibromyalgia it says it can be brought on after the death of a loved one!

72097.."it depends on what chemist you get them from"...It's not the chemist...

it's the generic or brand name. Did you know there's a difference between Apo and Novo? The ingredients are so very slightly different that one might not know the difference, but sometimes the size of the tablet is a giveaway.

You have developed joint pain & insomnia..I would think if this were a side effect of the Rampiril, it would have appeared before now. I would suggest you consult your doctor.

Hope you don't have it, hope your going to be ok. 👍😉x

That's just shorthand for 'we haven't got a clue'. It means they can tell you what is NOT wrong, but don't know what is.

Blood tests show I HAVEN'T got MS, Lupus, RA etc etc but no nearer knowing WHY my 'frozen shoulder' has now reached the elbow of the other arm and my right foot. So it MUST be Fibromyalgia, right?

Hi Heather,

Not had these effects yet but not been on the Ramapril as long as you have. However, a valid point has been made regarding the actual content of the medication. I have always believed that you get what you pay for. My Dad was a Pharmasist and so I was brought up in a Dispensary. He was  always going on about suppliers offering cheaper unbranded versions that may not contain all that is required to deal with the problem. The effectiveness of any medication is down to content and this, in turn, is down to cost. I am always wary of where I choose to get my medication from.

Dave

So sorry to hear that you have been getting joint pain. I took Ramipril for a number of years and did not associate my joint pain with the medication. The only side effect I had been warned about was a dry cough which I did not have. It was only after coming across this forum that I found that other people had suffered joint pain. I stopped taking Ramipril, I told my GP that I would like to try controlling my blood pressure with lifestyle changes and supplements. So far my BP is averaging around148/85 (home measurements) which is not as low as I would like but I am continuing to lose weight which I hope will lower it.

I would suggest that you return to your GP and ask if you can go on an alternative medication i.e. calcium channel blocker perhaps.

I was changed onto Ramipril 2.5 recently, and have suffered terrible joint and muscle pain with them, to the point that I have great difficulty going up and down stairs/steps.  I was on a cocktail of drugs for high blood pressure and high cholesterol and also Naproxin 500 for joint pain.  I have had to stop taking the Naproxin because they were making me ill.  Also I have stopped taking the cholesterol tablets too because of the fluid retention!   Why is it that tablets that are supposed to make you well, make you feel so bloomin' ill !!!

Before christmas I was only on Arthrotec (which apparently are not allowed) and I was full of energy and felt good.  Then they discovered high bp and cholesterol.  With all the tablets I am on and their side effects I have never felt so ill and depressed in all my life !!!

beth64670..I'm very surprised you were taking Naproxen while on bp medications. Here in Canada that most definitely is NOT recommended.

The Naproxen can & usually does, elevate bp even more. You stopped taking it, because it was making you ill...no wonder.
