TSH was 7.56 in Nov. Dr put me on 100 mcg Levothyroxine. Tested 1 month later and TSH was 0.045. Changed dosage to 75 mcg. Three weeks later I started breaking out in what seemed to be a heat rash. Four days later I’m itching very badly. Going to fern and sent msg to Primary asking for another blood test. The rash is small but itching is intense.
Dermatologist, not fern!
You could be allergic to something in the pills other than the Levo. See a dermatologist for sure and talk to your doctor about switching to NDT thyroid meds.
Hi, i had the same thing too after increasing the Levo. Its with the thyroxine. It will increase our histamine levels so i ended up taking antihistamine sometimes. The itch and rash for me is moslty hands face and neck where the hair touches. I was from 75mcg to 150 mcg. Dr did not say anything to what solution. Sometimes its there and some times not the rash and itch.
I'm still itching! Some spots are drying up. Seems they will dry up if I scratch them, but new ones appear over night.
My primary is new to me and new to the area. He's agreed to let me have another TSH at 6 weeks but I had to really bother him about it.
Rachel, thanks for the info about thyroxine increasing histamines. I also have a very itchy bump between two fingers and one itchy palm.
I'm using a steroid cream only on the worst spots 2 times a day and Calamine on the less itchy. Benadryl helps some, but makes me sleepy so I'm using it only once a day.
Abt a Church Super Bowl Party last night, 3 women told me they broke out in a rash when first on Levothyroxine and were switched to name brand synthroid which has no fillers and never had a rash again.
