I have been battling this disease (diverticulitis ?) for 2 years. I am a 67 year old male American and I  live in the Dominican Republic and was diagnosed here (DR) I went to see a gastrologist and had a barium ct scan indicating diverticular / diverticulosis  but no infections. The doctor told me to take aminosidina 500mg, 3x a day for 10 days, that helped for about a month then the pain returned (pain located about 3 inches right below my belly button, center of my lower abdomen) the pain returned and the dr said keep taking the meds, don't worry it only works in the colon. So after about a year of suffering I went to see a different dr who looked at my results and said i need to see a uroligist he had another ct scan done and said although you have 2 kidney stones one in each kidney and calcification in the tubes he saw nothing that could be causing my pain, next was a back dr he did a mri and said i have degenative disc disease, after 2 months of different meds he said something else is wrong, he sent me to a surgeon who told me i had 3 hernias and needed to have an operation I asked will this get rid of my pain she said yes I had the operation 4 months ago ,2 months after the operation the pain returned , so i went back to the surgeon and she sent me back to the gastrologist ...I decided to do some online research and found this site after reading about how other people have treated their diverticulitis, I decided to give it a try, so got some flagyl and some trimetoprim/ sulfamethoxazole and started taking the flgyl 4 times a day and the trimetoprim 2 times a day for 10 days I am now on day 4 I did do a liquid fast for the first 48 hours.

My question is this I have gad (generalized anxiety disorder)

and i take 1mg of lorazepam every 12 hours...does anybody take meds for gad and have they helped with the pain?

Wow you’ve been through a lot. Prayers you get better soon. I developed chronic anxiety and panic attacks when I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis in Feb 2018, tried all diff meds but my body rejected them and they made me worse. I just now take Xanax 2 x a day 0.05 mg. The mind and gut are a funny thing and anxiety with DD really sucks. This forum is amazing and I went by the Mayo Clinic DD (Diverticulitis) diet. Then on to Low FodMat diet add fiber slowly. Take stool softener drink bone beef broth and lotsa water. I do Metamucil once a day. Xanax doesn’t help pain just helps relax me. Same with Lorazapan.

I have no experience with gad but I just had to comment on how you were passed around from Dr. to Dr.; it just shows how doctors don't know everything. I have Chron's and diverticulitis but was given a diagnosis

of kidney stones which turned out to be false as told to me by my Urinologist, it turns out a lot of my pain, fevers, and infections are due to urinary tract issues as well as kidney and bladder problems, which I've been told often go hand in hand with Chron's and diverticulitis.

Always get a second opinion. I hope you get the treatment you need and get back to your norm. Take care.
