Just notice a new IOL, the RayOne IOL, has been FDA approval. I know nothing about this lens, but just throwing it out there as it claims to be a monofocal that give EDOF. Not sure how it compares to Eyhance or Vivity. Anyone heard anything about this IOL?
Found a video on youtube called, “WEBINAR | RayOne EMV: A monofocal IOL providing extended range of vision to patients”
They state this IOL was designed with monovision in mind, which is interesting with an overall better VA curve. I don’t remember any other IOL I have read about saying it was designed for improved monovision.
According to their chart if no offset (no monovision) then it performs better than Eyhance but slighly worse than Vivity. If 1.5D offset then performs better than Symfony.
Be interesting to see a clinical trial with this IOL used in monovision vs a regular monofocal used in monovison and a complete vision analysis.
Video is from Rayner so got to take it with a grain of salt, but it looks impressive when used in monovision, though they show more monovision than I like.
One note on their chart they list Synergy in the defractive Trifocal Category stating bifocal +4D combined with Symfony Optics. First I read that.
I’m wondering how it would compare to vivity if both the RayOne and the Vivity having a mini mini-monovision .5 or .7.
Both doctors i have conferred with suggest doing Vivity with this kind of mini-mono and I’m be curious to know about RayOne with a similar minimono offset.
what do you think?
I just saw it and threw it out there for anyone thinking about doing monovision with a monofocal or enhanced (Eyhance) or EDOF monofocal (vivity), but I have not researched it.
I thought it was interesting how they claimed it was designed for monovision. If you trust the manufactures propaganda, it looks like with monovision the overall visual acuity curve would be better with RayOne. I only rushed watched that one video and if I understood it correctly it sound like you could do more monovision with the RayOne due their superior visual curve (claimed they had a patent on it) and not be at risk or less risk of stereopsis.
But again I have not researched it all, which in addition to defocus curve, includes looking at what material it is made of and any issues with that material, effect on capsule bag and PCO rate of that IOL and so forth.
My only advice would be to find a doctor that has implanted both the RayOne Enhanced Monofocal and the Vivity using monovsion and what his patients results have been. And Yes I know that may be hard to find.
