Hi I was just wondering about the procedure for re-breaking a finger. When I was six years old my brother and I were messing around, and he decided to jump on me. Well when he jumped on me, I fell down and my finger snapped underneath me. When my mom took me to the doctor they set my finger wrong. Now it's really crooked, big, and hurts, I'm thinking about getting it rebroken, but I'm not sure. I'm just wondering what the procedure is to re-break a finger? Also how much pain will I be in? Thanks in advance!
You dont say how long ago this was. It could be painful for any number of reasons. As you were only 6 at the time maybe you didnt keep the strapping on long enough and the finger healed incorrectly. You could be suffering from arthritis, especially if you are now in your 40s+. Is the joint swelling? is that why it hurts? All people heal differently so it would be impossible to say how much pain you would be in but this would all be done under anaesthetic and the pain would be minimal. You need to see an orthopaedic consultant, preferably one who specialises in hands.
Well I am 18 years old. The pain can be somewhat bearable, but it shoots up my hand and arm causing pain in those regions too. Also if I accidentally hit it against a wall from playing sports then it hurts for a day or two.
You could have a trapped or damaged nerve. I can only repeat you need to see an orthopaedic specialist. The pain aspect may mean you need input from a neurosurgeon as well. Are you in UK?
I'm in the US.
