Hey guys, I suffer with anxiety & panic disorder since last year. I had it extreme last year and it basically destroyed my life for 7 months straight. I am heaps better now but I still suffer from general low grade anxiety on and off most days and the occassional full blown panic attack once every couple of weeks. Anyway, during this lockdown I have been much more tuned into my anxiety and really paying close attention to when I feel it spike. I have never had a particularly "healthy" diet and have always consumed sugar however I have began to notice that around 30-40 minutes after eating or drinking something high in sugar I begin to feel anxious. This can actually sometimes lead to a panic attack. I will feel jittery and "off" for the following hour before beginning to feel calmer again. I never put two and two together before but I tested my theory and went a day without sugar and my anxiety was basically non-existant. Ps - I do not have diabetes etc. I looked into this and there is some research to back this up and its common knowledge that sugar causes a "crash" afterwards! I do not think sugar is the "cause" of my anxiety at all but it 10000% makes it much worse. Just a tip for those who are struggling too, it might help! :)
thanks for the tip. never thought to look at sugar. i know caffeine is a trigger. my appetite is low when i am in anxiety mode. my anxiety and stress were under control until this virus scare and lockdown. i am medicated for anxiety and depression, but even with the meds, this past 2 weeks has been hell on my anxiety. i am shaky, sore burning muscles in my arms and legs and feel like a hundred pound weight is sitting on my chest, clammy hands, hot and cold sweats, called my gp and he told me to take xanex for my episodes. it works but i dont want to keep taking the xanex as i deemed it for extreme anxiety emergencies. multitude of anxiety sufferers have been on this forum and others complaining of heightened anxiety since this pandemic started. i think i have a handle on it this week, but last week was hell. thanks for tip, i have stayed away from soda and sugary drinks and switched to just plain water, and that seems to help as well
