Hi guys, im an 18 year old and I'm at that stage in life where I want to start my life, go out and work and also socialize with friends. It has took my doctor a year to diagnos me with ibs! Before I could control it but now I feel like its all I think about and it makes me not want to go out because I'm scared in case it triggers as I have lost my routine with it. ive never felt like this before. I'm constantly nervous if I have to leave the house! So basically I was wondering if anyone has felt the same because I have no idea how I can make myself calmer and not stress out about going out. My Hair is falling out because im so stressed! I need to control my anxiety before it gets any worse and I won't be able to see my doctor for at least 10 weeks. Please help, any advice would be much appreciated.
Hey guest96,
I deal with bad anxiety when it comes to stress too. I'm enrolled in a university with 18 hours, a 12.5 hour job, and extra ciruclar activities. Along with that I have major family drama and constant social pressures. So I know the strain that stress can put on our poor tummies.
You might want to look into relaxing therapies like art therapy, writing therapy, and/or mindfulness. I practice mindfulness and the breathing techniques I have learned I really the only thing that can control my anxiety when I feel it reaching a dangerous level.
You could also enroll in counceling. You don't have to be mentally I'll to see a councilor. They want to help you to not develop an anxiety disorder so just by sitting with them an hour a day they can start helping you devolp a plan on what to do when you feel anxious and/or start having a panic attack.
I hope this helps and remember you are not the only one experiencing this, we are with you!
Joan's suggestion has some scientific basis....google
"peppermint oil in irritable bowel syndrome, pub med"
Please read the entire abstract not just the results....while this was what I call a "meta analysis" meanng analysis of analysis's...it yet has valuable information.
Start slow or take half dose initally...it's just a good habit that when putting anything "new" into your stomach....best is minimum...to see how it goes..then can always increase gradually giving your digestivesystem adequate opportunity to produce the enzymes/gastric's to process completely and protect mucosa..
This may or may not be a cure....if not...then the PO doesn't have the ability to handle possible bacteria within your small intestine. But, a BHT can easily rule this in or out...but 10 weeks of Joan's suggestion may give you a good bridge...

Try to exercise to help with your anxiety. This is important but it is not the full solution. Also, practicing mindfulness, as someone mentioned below is very useful and I've been using it recently to help with anxiety and to create a good balance.
Also, for the IBS itself, use 1 teaspoon of L-glutamine powder supplement everyday morning mixed with water and taken half an hour before food. This will help you.
