I have been on Sertraline for two weeks and haven't been sleeping. The doctor changed me to Mirtazapine last night, I take the first one tonight. Im really worried, always struggled with my weight and am now at a weight that I am happy with. Ive heard that you can gain alot of weight in a short amount of time with Mirtazapine. Is there anything I can do about this, if I eat lots of fruit and veg and eat sensibly will I still gain weight?
The last thing I need is for my confidence to totally go!
Hi Maizie, I think Mirtazapine will help with your sleep, it is good for that. I also found it good for the depression and anxiety. My weight gain has been due to an increased appetite but eating all the wrong things. It made me crave carbs....bread cake chocolate etc lots of it. It seems to work differently for some people and some peoples experience is they don't put on the weight.
I dont think it makes you put on weight in itself, it stimulates the appetite which in turn makes you want to eat more.
Hope it works for you and you have positive experiences.
Keep us posted.
Rayne.
Many thanks for your reply.
I must admit they have been pretty much knocking me out at night and have found that I am so tired the next day, will this last?
I sleep all the way through which is great but I have been having some weird dreams!
And I also am craving chocolate, I haven't got a sweet tooth at all so this is a surprise to me.
Hi Maizie0
Glad you are sleeping better. When I was on 30mg-45mg I was a bit tired the next day but it wore off as the morning went on. I was able to concentrate better at work and was less in a fog as I had been previously with Dothiepin.
I had very vivid dreams and increased to 45mg (under guidance of consultant) because of that as I was aware symptoms were less pronounced at a higher doseage.
Yep the cravings. With me it was always sweet things. I used to go shopping and everything in my trolley seemed to be those things I craved.Sorry if you are suddenly craving chocolate when it was something you wouldn't usually go for.
Its sad that all these different medications have so many negative side effects as well as the really positive ones.
Hope the meds work for you. Rayne
