I find myself here again scrolling for hours looking for reassurance to keep me on track and motivated.
I’ve been on 20mg for coming up to 9 weeks on Tuesday. I have had some good days but not mamy. I have been going through a “blip” for over a week now and I am so disheartened and find myself questioning if this is working for me. I know it has to some extent as I no longer have panic attacks but my anxiety hasn’t deminished much. I seem to have developed feelings of depression, detachment, depersonalisation etc.
I was struck with anxiety and panic attacks out of the blue and it spiralled out of control and I still haven’t managed to understand where it has came from in order to help me cope with it better.
I guess I just want to hear if people have struggled weeks/months before it actually worked?!
It took me 8 months and the waiting process was herrendous..but iam recovered.
If u don’t mind me asking what was your experience like getting through it, your story?
Hi
I am in exactly the same situation but have been on them for 17 weeks, I am really struggling with the side effects such as dry mouth which has resulted in my lip splitting, aching all over my body, headaches, trembling and jerking and insomnia to name the main ones ... I am seriously considering cutting down with a view to getting off them as I have no life and haven’t had for the past 4 months.
sorry this is not a particulaly positive response but it shows we are all in the same boat , hope you feel better soon.
Side effects have subsided for me apart from my appetite. I can’t eat much but I am eating. I have read that if you are suffering some of the side effects you have mentioned then they maybe aren’t suitable for you.
I just can’t shift the anxiety. Im at my wits end.
I had every possible side effect to the tenth power.but because my initial side effects where diminishing I stuck it out..brain zaps /peresthesia on my scalp/uncontrollable adrenaline/severe head aches.those where my initial symptoms before any medication.going thru the side effects was hell..but again because my initial anxietys where slowwwwly going away I continue.plus I couldn't say oh this med ain't working because I had already try five different ones.but im glad I stuck thru it because I feel lovely .and iam still taking my10 milligrams of celexa..
I meant to say my initial symptoms..
Hello, I am exactly the same! I have been on citalopram for 12 weeks now and I feel my anxiety is still quite bad, I have also been feeling depressed, I think it is best to speak to your doctor as that medication may not work for you, I don't think its working for me so I will be changing as not waiting any longer, I know how you feel as you just want to feel more confident and happier x
hi Moaney86,when i started to take citrolopram and got too 10/12 weeks ,i was like you, thought they were not working ,but i persevered and carried on taking them, once i got too 15/18 weeks i found they did work ,so what i am saying is carry on taking them for another 4 weeks to see if they will work for you and if not ,then go too your doctors and explain what you are feeling .Just because you are getting side effects does not mean that it is not working as some medication can make it worse before it helps you when it has built up in your system
I’m not really getting side effects anymore. When my anxiety is ramped up I can’t seem to eat, I’m not sure if this is still a side effect or if it’s just my anxiety. The anxiety isn’t all too bad it’s the depressed, lost, confused feelings I can’t handle and I only experienced these at the start of all of this. I wonder if I may have platowed and if I shld increase dose and push through the side effects to get to where I want to be? Did u change dose at any point??
Can I ask when your severe headaches stopped? I’m going through that right now and wondering if they’ll ever stop.. it stated before I started taking this medication.. I’m only on week 4
I too was like Lois having every possible side effect for several months. I would have good days then have anxiety would be heightened after I took my 10mg. I cut caffeine out totally. I too had panic attacks but all has deminished. I just finished 7 months and I feel great.
I did keep a journal and in my 9th - 12th week I too was having thoughts that the med was not working. It’s a roller coaster ride and I’m so glad I stayed with it at 10mg.
Will😎
You must have had extremely good will power to stick it out. I have had far more bad days the man good and this last week I have went back to square one. I have had plenty advice all very conflicting as some say up it some say stick it out. I have decided though after so much deliberation I have decided to increase. My anxiety is through the roof as it is so if I have to suffer it longer then so be it. I need to try something 🤦🏻♀️
I would try a benzo first before I up my dose..
It’s done now I’m going to ride the wave.....I have diazepam to see me through if I get as bad as I was at the start. I haven’t really had to use them for a while so I have a little stock left over.
Keepin mind that when you go up or down in dosage it brings on the side effects all over.
I just wondering how much did up up the dosage since you started at 20mg did you go up 2.5 or 5?
Soooo…
I increased my dose a little over 2 weeks after speaking to the GP. I have to say I didn’t experience many side effects … upset stomach for a couple of days and dizziness … and (fingers and toes crossed) I have been much better!!! Things seem to be piecing together and hopefully back to work and some normality soon!!
Thanks to all for the advice
