Rebound acid hypersecretion from short term PPI use that never goes away?

I have gone through a similar situation as you. Unfortunately for me, I have also lost almost 20lb in the process. Doctors don’t know why, at least not yet.

There is a condition called the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome that cause a hyper secretion of acid in the stomach that many doctors miss for chronic gastritis. It shows usually between 30 and 50 years. Fortunatelly is uncommon but when present is always missed. You cant see the lesions in a CT Scan, XRay or MRI because they are small… only a SRS will pick them up

If you are able to measure the gastrin levels of your body after being off PPIs more than three weeks and they turn very high, it is a high indicator of this.

Hi
I read this discussion and would like to discuss further on this. Can I email you? Can you please share your email?

pleaseeeee get back to me…

I have a similar situation. About 1.5 months ago, I took Omez for about a week together with NSAIDs as prescribed by an orthopedist. Then, a few days later, I took Nexium at the instigation of another doctor. And on the second day of taking Nexium, I began to feel severe heartburn. I’ve never had this before. I stopped taking Nexium, but the severe heartburn did not go away. For a week, I took Phosphalyugel , which is a non-absorbable antacid. Heartburn has become less, but it has not completely passed, but it is already tolerable. I hope that this will pass over time, at least there is a dynamic for the better.

These PPIs are such dangerous stuff. I think they should be banned.

It seems to me that in order to recover, it is necessary to remove all drugs that cause acid rebound, including Pepsid. And wait. And if necessary, stop severe heartburn with NON-ABSORBED antacids - they do not cause an acid rebound.

I wish you a good recovery, and myself too.

Sorry for my English - I use a translator, but I hope that you understand me.

Hello,

Did you ever try low-dose antidepressants? i have had symptoms like yours on and off (months) for many years until the next episode went on indefinitely. I PPIs didnt help and after doing a pH test while on the PPIs i had no acid but the same symptoms . what i gave is likely a hyperactive nerve in the esophagus that is ultra sensitive to normal pH secretion. I tried a couple of different ones and after being on them my pain is gone. 50mg nortryptaline. worth a try for a couple of months see if your pain resolves.

hey! I just read through this entire thread… I’m legit the exact same as you and Ryan and wondered if either of you got any answers?! did you end up doing the smartpill test? find anything that works for either of you?!
I hope to hear back
