Recent Endoscopy

Hi all,

I just thought that would share my experience with my recent (23/08/12) Endoscopy. The procedure was carried out by Dr David Ng, Consultant Gastroenterologist at Jersey General Hospital (Channel Islands UK)

I was very apprehensive before the procedure; I opted to try it without sedation as I wanted to go to work the next day. I must say I was worrying about nothing, Dr Ng put me at ease, I had some spray that tasted like bad Bananas on my throat then a mouth shield was inserted and the tube was slide into my mouth and glided down my food pipe.

Now this is not something I would want to repeat in a hurry as you do gag and you get a sensation of wanting to swallow the tube, but rest assured the pipe is down your food pipe so you can breathe as normal.

I had 3 biopsy’s taken and in all the whole procedure took about 6 minutes, was completely painless with just a few bad gags.

Don’t bother with sedation, just think about your breathing and wiggle your toes!

I would recommend Dr Ng if you are in the Channel Islands he knows what he is doing!

Hi Mfyfe, I also had it done without sedation and it was fine. So anyone out there Mfyfe is absolutley right, don't worry about the procedure. I 'sang' a nursery rhyme in my head and concentrated on slow breathing, the consultant said I was a star! At 60 I was thrilled. Thanks for sharing Mfyfe.

Yes, I too am over 60 and had one done. No problems or discomfort. Better than the Dentist. It's the other one (other end) that bothers me. Hope I won't need it. Wish you all good health.

Ranked in nastiness : 1. Visit to the Dentist 2. Colonoscopy 3. Endoscopy cheesygrin
