Recent ultrasound shows cysts on both ovaries.

Hi all, I'm new here but have been reading through some of the posts.

I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago (April 2013) due to heavy, unexplained bleeding although I retained my ovaries. I was told after the op that they did see a cyst on my right ovary but decided to leave it alone. I wasn't given any other information than that and, to be honest, I didn't think to ask. In September last year I went to see my GP as I just wasn't feeling myself and was so tired all the time. She did a full blood count which came back normal.  She suggested I may just need to increase my depression meds as I had been trying to cut them down.

About 5 weeks ago, I started to get a pain in my right side when I went to the loo which radiated through to my back. I had also had some bloating (which came & went).  I went back to the surgery and saw a different doctor who examined me (although they did not an internal exam). He couldn't feel anything and as the pain had subsided he asked me if I wanted to wait and see how things went. I said I would prefer to have it looked into so he arranged an ultrasound, although at this  point he didn't order any blood tests.  

I had the ultrasound on Monday this week at 9.30am and at 3.30pm, my GP surgery called me to say that they had received the results and I needed to make a 'routine' appt. they had no appts for a week so I requested a telephone consultation for the next day.

a different GP rang the next day and asked what she could do for me.  I told her that I had had a scan and that the results had come back and I was told I needed to be seen. She then asked me what the radiographer had said to me during the scan. I replied that they had said they could see a cyst on the right ovary which looked like it had been bleeding. They then did an internal scan to check the cyst closer. It was then they mentioned a small cyst on the left ovary. The GP then said that was correct and I would need blood tests and a referral and booked me in to see my usual GP next week. In the meantime, she arranged the blood test form (FBC & ca125) which I had on weds. 

One thing  that is sticking in my mind is that the radiographer asked me why I had my hysterectomy, which is worrying me? Obviously at th moment, I have no idea what the scan actually said. Also, is it standard procedure to order ca125?

I think the CA125 is standard. It seems to be routine when there is a cyst. They also seem to do Ca 19-9 fairly often too which is to do with the pancreas. If the Ca125 comes back raised try not to get alarmed, I understand simply having a cyst can increase the result. The blood results came back very quick for me, so hopefully will for you too. 

I think the radiographer probably asked questions about your hysterectomy just to make sure they were doing their job properly, and getting the right images.

Thanks for your reply, I think the fact that the GP I spoke to on the phone seemed a bit reluctant to discuss it made it worse. Hope all is ok with you x

Just thought I would update..... I went to see my GP for my results this week. My blood tests (FBC, CA125) were within normal ranges. I have a simple cyst on my left ovary & haemorrhagic/chocolate cysts on my right. My GP has done an urgent referral to gynae so hopefully I will get an appt through soon.
