I was rushed to hospital 2 weeks ago with suspected appendicitis as i was suffering severe pain on my right hand side in my tummy, after numerous scans, tests, I was told I was ok and sent home with medication for IBS. I didn't get any better so went back to hospital, they finally did a CT scan, I got told I had small kidney stones and an infection. I was given 3 day course of antibiotics and sent home with no follow up.
one week after finishing my antibiotics, I went back to my GP today, I have another kidney infection and now on a 7 day course of antibiotics. GP told me I have one 3mm stone in my right kidney and 'multiple' 2mm stones in my left kidney. I'm in quite a lot of discomfort. If these antibiotics don't work then he will refer me to a urologist.
has anyone been through similar? I feel a little lost and worried about it all.
ive experienced recurrent UTI's when I was a teenager/young adult, they settled down for a few years but now they seem to be back (I'm 29). Any thoughts and experiences are welcome! Thanks xx
Looks like they're hoping that these relatively small stones will pass naturally and you should be drinking plenty to try to assist this.
If they don't, you'll need more attention from the medics.
Keep on top of things as best you can and if things get worse, or if you can't stand it any longer, get back to your doctor. Take painkillers when you can. I found that diclofenac was good.
The pain that you are getting could be as the stones try to make their move and the body tries to hurry them along. It's a painful time and I hope it gets better for you quickly.
Let us know how you get on.
This sounds just like my experience! I'm 17 and was rushed in with suspected appendicitis, because my blood were normal I was sent home with Ibs medication also! It continued and the hospital would not even see me, I in the end paid for private care and they discovered a 17 mm kidney stone.. I also suffer from recurrent uti's, did they say that was the probable cause of your stone? Xx
Hi Jessie, it's nice to know I'm not alone, but sorry to hear you have suffered like this as well.
My hospital have kind of abandoned me with no follow up or information on what I should do! I saw my GP on Monday who told me what size the stones were and that they shouldn't cause an infection. He gave me a 7 day course of antibiotics for a kidney infection. He said if this set of antibiotics doesn't work then I will be referred to a urologist. I feel so poorly, tired, it hurts to sit/stand/bend. I've got itchy skin around the kidney area. Just fed up now! Sorry for moaning!
Oh bless ya don't worry about moaning, sometimes we need a good moan don't we? I honestly feel for you because as well I have a kidney infection with my stone and it's so painful! It's so wrong they haven't given you any information for what to do.. I hope you become pain free soon!
