Recommendations please!

Looking for recommendations for a hip surgeon. It seems no-one wants to name surgeon or hospital where they have experienced either good or bad results.

I always seek personal recommendations and check reviews before making choices.

For this most important choice of my life I am not finding any answers.

Please help!

Joy

— in Dunstable.

Mine was sorted in Hythe kent private hospital bt through NHS ASHFORD my consultant was brilliant he works both places. If you call consultants for hip surgery in your are they should give how many procedures they have done just an idea.

I had mine done in November 15 at the Royal Fee Hospital in Hampstead, NW3.  My surgeon was brilliant he took in every fear I had and made it better, promised me I will walk normally again and I am. Cannot spell his name, but it is Mr Man!!!!!

Wonderful man.

My surgery was in upstate NY

Hi. I went to the Royal national orthopaedic hospital in Stanmore north west London and saw a Mr Carrington. I had my right done in February 2015 and am now in the process of being re-referred with a view to get the left done.

I had Nick Garlick 8-9 years ago at the St J and St Eliz, and he's now at the Royal Free, NW3, I think.  16 months ago I had second one done, by Sarah Muirhead-Allwood.  Both good,  King Edward VII Hospital with Sarah MA lovely, especially the pool.....

Thank you for your reply.

Really appreciate all responses.

Thank you.

All answers really help.

I had mine (both of them) done at a regional hospital in Holland -

Ortho Surgeon was no a great communicator but great surgeon with great bedside manners - He has since retired !

good luck Joy,

have you made a decision yet?

big warm hug

renee

Thank you.

Yours is the second recommendation for Sarah Muirhead-Allwood.

King Edward V11 Hosp. looks superb.

Thank you Renee

Getting there, still not quite sure, such a scaredy-cat.

Hope you are getting better, I think the role of the muscles is so key to the whole process.

I believe pyysio therapy can help before and after.

Best regards

Joy

But she is in her late sixties now, and may not be quite the same.  Someone else recommended a younger man, trained by her.  Operates at K E VII, too.

I know, darling - it is a big decision ..

what is the alternative for you ? Would you be okay with the way things are right now and knowing that it will get worse, not better ?

You probably have a high pain level or no pain at all, just the heavy limp.

Have you talked to an Orthopedic Surgeon at all? How long ago sincce your last x-rays?

I am sure you made a "pro- and con THR surgery" list  -

If you are not ready, maybe give it a rest - I usually give it, gift-wrapped with pretty bow, to God -

Hi Joy, I'm now 10 days post -op & had my surgery at The Nuffield Warwickshire (based in Lamington Spa). My surgeon was Mr Andrew Shepherd who I chose based on quite a few weeks worth of research. He's a teaching surgeon who specialises in hips & knees but predominantly hips.

The National Joint Register is also a good source of research - ideally you should be looking for anyone that performs over 100 hip replacement/revisions per year.

Good luck & best wishes x

You have touched exactly on my main concern as I know she retired from the nhs at age 65.

At age 80 myself I know that after 60 one is not quite so steady physically, though experience counts for a great deal.

Can you tell me the name of the youger man?

Really appreciate your input.

Many thanks

Had mine done in Hitchin, and cannot reccomend either hospital or surgeon - they both made fundamental mistakes - legal case pending.

Thank you, glad you are pleased with your surgeon.

I do use the NJR for research.

Still I like the idea of personal recommendation.

Unfortunately one highly recommended surgeon has now moved from the London Hospital where he used to practice.

As for the hospital and surgeon recommended by a neighbour,I was refused that option.

Good luck with your ongoing recovery.
