There's nowhere nearly as good as RNOH at Stanmore - but they do not take on many 'normal' cases I understand. I am with them now, and cannot recommend them highly enough. They mostly do the very complex cases, we saw people walking around there with pins sticking right through their legs whilst their bones knitted back together.
Best wishes

Where are you located Hun?
I know,I started off requesting a referral to Stanmore but was refused.
My neighbour had her thr there, but it turned out she had worked for the family of the senior consultant who pulled strings for her and did her op himself.
That refusal set me on a course to research everything about hip replacement, which led me to the forum, so still learning. There is so much to consider.
Until developing the dodgy hip I had no idea and took my reasonable health for granted.
It is certainly an education to learn what some people are having to contend with.
Glad you are feeling confident about your own recovery.

My
I am in Dunstable,Bedfordshire,UK
Had my left hip replaced last September by Sarah Muirhead Allwood at the King Edward VII hospital. Superb experience all round. Excellent surgical result and care. Discharged with just one crutch. Walking with no crutch 3 weeks later. No pain. Back to full mobility and back practising martial
arts. As far as I'm concerned she's the bees knees and I wouldn't go to anyone else.
I should add that my muscles were not cut but merely stretched which meant a much quicker recovery time. I'm not sure if this approach is one of Sarah M-H's specialisms. But if it is it's one more reason for choosing her.
Thank you so much.
Your comments are exactly the encouragement I need.
I have read that a Lateral approach with the muscles stretched rather than cut helps recovery.
Did you have the Lateral approach?
So good to read of such a positive experience.
Really appreciate your taking the time to post.

I am in the states so I guess my surgeon wouldn't help you but u am sure there are a lot of good ones hippies can recommend to you on here. This site has been a big help to me . I am three months post op and not knowing what is normal it is nice that everyone here has been so great with sharing only what others having hip replacements would understand. Best of luck hun😊
yes, she does it that way.
Hello Joy
I am male, 56, 6' 3” and 120 Kg (264lbs or 19 stone) - I think these details help when making a judgement on recovery.
William Dunnet in Kent. The man is a genius. Everything is the correct length and pointing in the right direction.
I was operated on in a private hospital near Tunbridge Wells but via the NHS.
I had my operation on Jan 21, 2016. I am back at work full time (as a postie) and walk 10 - 12 miles a day and climb the equivalent of 18-22 floors, daily.
Not a grumble from the hip.
Hope that helps.
Michael
Hi - yes it was lateral approach. I have a very small scar (4cms) on the outside of my thigh. It healed really quickly. I hope it goes well for you. It has transformed my life.
Hi Gloria, where is Dunstable? I am extremely fortunate to live in Exeter,Devon and the RD&E hospital is renowned for being one of the best for hip surgery in the world i believe.
Im guessing its fine to mention,
My surgeon, Matthew Wilson has been amazing and he specialises in "young hips". I am 41, extremely sporty and active and 3 days after surgery walked 20mins, next day 2 x 20 mins, same again, then following day 90mins. I feel great....only on ibuprofen and paracetamol now and getting back in the pool in 18 days and counting!!!
Good luck, you will be fine
Hi Joy.
I think we have discussed this before re Stanmore. I was refused at first but you have to be persistent. I was referred to FOUR other hospitals in the region before I finally managed to get to Stanmore. All the others were refusing to do anything because of my age ( I was in my early fifties) and were telling me to manage it conservatively. (How??) even the registrar of a consultant who had initially agreed to an operation. That was at Watford general. Eventually my GP agreed to refer me to Stanmore and I was seen pretty quickly. It says on Stanmore website that they are "not just a tertiary hospital but accept GP referrals "
