recovering well - JUST DO IT!

I just want to say that this site was extremely helpful as I decided on the total hip replacement. I am at 3 months now and can put my socks on, climb stairs and exercise. I can't get to all my yoga positions but I keep pushing a little each day. Hopefully I won't need a second replacement but if I do, I will do it right a way. Surgery really isn't bad (I had NO pain) and quality of life is back!

I AM 11 WEEKS AND STILL CAN'T PUT MY SOCKS ON.    WHAT IS YOUR SECRET?

I am at 10 weeks ....I can put my sock on my non operated side.  I can tie my shoes for both...but I am still walking with a limp and still have to use my cane.  So at 11 weeks are you still using a walking aid?

....wondering if the stiffness goes/lessens a lot?   px

I am 8 weeks just been to physio, she said I have done really well but because my hipmwas so bad, she thinks I may have a small limp for ever, but i may need a small block if necessary. Plus i have more to do, but i am on the right side of things. Ok to walk around with no crutch in doors and one crutch out. So cold to.

Persistence! I just did ALL the recommended exercises and at 4 weeks started pushing with the yoga stretches.  No secret J Just keep following the exercises with a goal. Good luck!

The stiffness disappears as you exercise to exhausting the muscles. Oh- and use ice! I hate the cold but it really helps.

I never really had a limp and I hated using the cane. Actually only used it a few times when I went out so people could understand why I was so slow. Trust the doctors- they will get you going. Wish you luck!

I used the walker for 3 1/2 weeks and the cane only for a few days. Have you gone to therapy? They showed me the exercises to start with instead of running before you can walk.

hi marti

Wow! You are doing well! Yes I go to therapy 2 to 3 times a week. Plus I do my exercises 2 times a day. My incision is lateral (on the side of hip) I'm not sure if this has anything to do with me still needing a cane. Doc doesn't seem too worried about it ...yet. My therapist said I'm doing fine. I would just love to not have to use a cane though. In time I guess! But at least my hip pain is all gone!!
