Rectal Bleeding

Hi,

I took orlistat for 6months earlier this year and then although it had been successful, my circumstances changed and it wasn't a good idea for me to carry on taking it. I have recently gone back on it after gaining the weight that I had lost.

My problem is, after two weeks taking it, I have passed blood a couple of times when going to the toilet. Sorry if I offend anyone, but the blood was quite fluid not clotty or anything. It only happened when going to the loo and no, I am not constipated. I usually go twice a day even without the orlistat.

Has anyone else had this happen? I will be seeing the nurse on Friday so I will speak to her about it then but just thought I would ask.........

Hi I have been on orlistat for nearly 4 weeks and have had no bad side effects and by my own weighing have lost just over one stone. Although tonight I too have noticed some blood in my stools and have scoured the Internet to no avail:-( so would be interested in if anyone else has experienced this and what has been advised. I am hoping that when I see my gp on Monday he don't say I have to stop taking them cause they are working.

By the way this is a great site and everyone really supportive.

It could be piles - they seem to be quite common with users, probably 'cos of the frequency we all have to go. They can bleed, so as long as the blood is red and clean, that could be your problem. Any dark or clotted blood could be more serious as it could be internal. Best mention it to you doc next time you visit in either case.

i do believe its one of the side effects listed in the leaflet you get with the meds, i am not home at the mo so i can;t check but i think i read it in there!
