Hi ladies. I'm now 12 weeks since surgery and really worried it has failed. Recovered really well with no problems. But the last few weeks I'm struggling again to go for a bm. Same as before surgery, keep wanting to go but can't or get just bits of poo. . Back on suppositories etc. When I do go the poo is thin like before. I did everything as told for recovery. And until last few weeks managed to go normally. I also noticed alot of mucus. What do I do? Is this normal?
Hi jojo c,
I am sure your rectocele has not failed. I am 15 weeks post op for A&P repairs and I was on lactose over early weeks and weaned myself off , but like yourself had occasional problems just like you mentioned feeling bloated like I need to go, yet can't and only managing small bits and pieces and short thin bits. Had to use lactose again couple of times. On the whole sorted itself but still have to watch what I'm eating.
Eating wholemeal bread, lots of fruit and veg, and drinking lots of water.
Mainly trial and error with most things but if I go too much the other way and end up too soft need to toast white bread.
I usually only get mucus with either extreme. Don't think it's anything to worry about.
Once I was back on my feet a bit more the little bit of exercise helped too.
I'm sure it will sort itself out.

Thank you Phyl. That's such a relief. I have been drinking lots of water and on a diet of mainly veg and fruit so was so worried it's not the diet. You've been a great help. Xx
It's very unlikely to have failed jo jo but please see your GP for reassurance.
Sorry to hear things are difficult. I am 7 weeks and my bathroom habits are still not back to normal and I still use suppositories. I think things are better in terms of not bulging, but I'm really worried about straining and the suppositories let me go without straining so I still use them regularly.
I don't think the mucus is a sign of a rectocele but it can be worrisome for other reasons. Definitely see your GP for reassurance, but I think they are more likely to take a stool sample and check out digestive issues than say there is an issue with your rectocele repair. We took my son in recently for lots of mucus in his stool and that's what they did.
