Rectocele repair 5 weeks post op

Hi

I'm 5 weeks post REctocele repair and have managed to get myself a lovely cough courtesy of the kids 😩

Feel quite gutted as up until then I felt reasonably good ...now I'm back feeling sore and panicking that I've undone all the work the surgeon has done.

I have had a little look and it all looks so swollen and I can see what looks like a broken stitch which is still attached.

Feeling a little sorry for myself 😭 ...

My main question is should my Perinium stitches be coming out now ? Should I be swollen ...feel completely useless!

Thank you for your time !

Ps 35 yr old mum of 2 with a fab hubby supporting me all the way !

Hi happynoon,

Try not to worry too much, matron always use to say that that stitches they use are very strong especially the deeper ones and unlikely to come come out.

Try and pull up your pelvic floor and hold it up before you cough and maybe support with your hand too.

It might be worth paying a visit to your GP or speak on the phone to get a prescription of some sort to try and supreme the coughing.

I had the start of a cold just before my surgery and although they went ahead I was on oxygen/air when I came out which helped dry up any irritation. Once home I had that irritating cough and had to try and hold everything UK while coughing. I learned to cough a bit differently to try and avoid down pressure on wounds anyway I managed to survive if without doing any damage.

Although some swelling went down at 6/7 weeks it did not completely go down till around the 12/13 week mark.

I'm sure you will be fine, I used TCP to try and dry the phlegm up and kept a glass of water to supress the coughing.

Is so frustrating but you will get there in the end.

Take care,

Phyl x

Sorry also meant to say that some the stitches will be loosening as your wounds pull tight as there healing as will start to come out, usually around the 5/6 week mark but you will still have swelling.
