rectocele surgery

hi ladies , just trying to gather some info on a posterior repair , i recently had an anterior repair for a cystocele but now 8 weeks post op i have that dreaded bulge from a rectocele ,which i want repired asap,  are the 2 repairs basically done the same way , is recovery the same timelines etc xx

Hello helen. A rectocele repair can be performed in a couple of different ways, one where mesh is used. Recovery is roughly the same time but I always think a rectocele repair is a bit more painful. There's information on this excellent website about the surgery. You would have to see a Urogynaecologist first to see which procedure he will want to perform. It's a bit difficult to answer your question fully without that information.

thank you matron , ohh is that mesh ok to use, there is alot of bad reviews on the internet with using it , really dont think i would like mesh x

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet. The use of mesh is closely monitored and not all Urogynaecologists are permitted to use it. Special training is given. A lot of the negative reviews come from USA and there were problems because the surgery was performed my surgeons who weren't trained. There are many successful results with the mesh and it's thought in the long term it will hold the repair in place longer than the usual method. It could be that the Urogynaecologist you're referred to may not be one of the surgeons trained to use it, that's why you need to have that appointment first.
