Recurrent bleeding in the stool

Hello all,

I've been having recurrent bleeding in my stool for over 2 years now. When it happens, it usually lasts for 1 or 2 weeks and then stops. I went to my physician and I had multiple tests done, including blood tests, xrays, ultrasound and finally a colonoscopy and I was diagnosed with haemorrhoids. I wasn't told if internal or external but I assume internal since I don't have pain when I go the washroom. It is very distressing when the blood appears and I pray for it to stop even though as I mention it is painless. I wonder if anybody else has similar symthoms and whether there is a treatment for that.

Thank you,

Fabio

Hi fabio,

Do not worry. Your case is external because you say there is no pain. Fresh blood drip means that it is not from the inside (not from your stomach). Have more water and fiber in your meal. Go for fruits and vegetables for a week without meat and you will see difference. Warm bath can also help relieve itchiness of the hemorrhoid.

Hi mrnp, I appreciate your recommendations. Bleeding usually occurs after I've had constipation. I usually have lots of fiber in my diet but I haven't tried the warm bath. I'll give that a try.

Thanks!

Hello As I understand it internal haemorrhoids don't cause any pain even when bleeding which is often the only sign you have them.  Like you I recently had a colonscopy and was diagnosed with internal haemmerhoids, Diverticular and they removed one small benign looking polyp.  I have also suffered from IBS for some time to add to the mix.  Did they offer you banding for the haemmerhoids when you had the colonoscopy.  They did me but  the surgeon said that most people don't.  I was just so relieved to know there was no cancer that I said no.  They are on my report as small haemmerhoids.  What has your gp advised to get the bleeding under control.  As you mention constipation is the main cause.  There are some good tips on here as well.  I would go and see your gp again for advice.  I know what you mean about distress on seeing blood when going to the toilet.  I had it for 2 months before colonscopy.  I ws told that the bleeding could be  the internal hemmies or the diveticular.  It has started again and my gp is sure it is the hemmies.  You know what you are dealing with so try not to worry look at diet, creams, washing etc and see what your gp says.  Good luck.
