Recurring problems with GAD and panic following PTSD-

Hi, I have PTSD following a botched op. and a suicide I witnessed, and get occasional flashbacks etc, resulting in severe GAD for a few days at a time. It's always a struggle to get diazepam for short term use to cover these periods from my GP, but although I'm on daily 60mg prozac and propanolol, it's the only drug that  helps my panic. I don't want to buy it online, as I know that's not legal, but can I get  private prescription for it I am willing to pay the full cost? Thanks.

ps-I've had counselling and CBT several times, plus mindfulness training and EMDR for my PTSD but still get these episodes of panic, no matter what! Obviously "talking cures" aren't working in my case, though I've tried everything. N.B. traumas date from 2000 and 2013 so long term issue..

It seems your condition has not been addressed. Sometimes some staff specialise on PTSD while others can find it very hard to relate.

You need to see a phyciatrist initially and they should be able to introduce you to someone who has an aptitude in treating PTSD. The longer PTSD sticks around the harder it is to clear it so it is important you are given confidence to talk this out . Then you can move on.

You explain you have had two periods that has caused your problems and you explain you may take Private Prescriptions. If you are in the UK I would advise you make up your mind if you go private or not, two General Practioners working on different treatment pland would be like what on hand does the other may not follow andthat can confuse your treatments.

In many cases here you may see the same Consultant on NHS and Private. Decide on your preferred way forward and follow that pathway
