BPH is gradually getting worse and i have been on Tamsulosin for many years. Is the reduced amount of semen on ejaculation due to the prostate enlargement interrupting the flow or is it a side effect of the Tamsulosin or a combination of the two?
It is due to Tamsulosin and can even cause retro Its a very nasty drug and if you ever need cataract surgery can make it more difficult due to Floopy Iris syndrome..
It's the Tamsulosin. How much urine are you retaining in your bladder with the Tamsulosin? And you should probably find out how much you are retaining without the drug. Have you had an ultrasound of your kidneys and urinary tract? Any hydronephrosis (water in the kidneys)? How are your kidney function tests such as blood Creatine? Depending on the results, and your tolerance for Tamsulosin's sexual side effects, you might want to dump the Tamsulosin and have some sort of surgery or procedure. Self catherization is another option that I happened to choose.

I agree with jimjames and derek76. I was on Tamsulosin and the only side-effect was retro-ejaculation. As I've now discovered I don't have serious BPH, I've stopped the Tamsulosin and, whilst I'm not spurting like a 17 year-old, at least semen is coming out rather than the strange sensation of dry orgasm..
My translation of "decreased semen volume" is "less satisfying ejaculations". I tried flomax, then combined with avodart briefly, and couldn't stand them. Creepy sensation, and the experience felt more like poisoning the prostate than anything to do with the symptoms. Others have had a better experience, apparently, but mine was bad and I'd advise anybody to challenge the prescription and discuss with the urologist. Hope your luck is better, Andy
That is exacly the side effect of these medications for BPH.
It makes one wonder why they have been prescribed for so long.
As I often relate when I asked the nurse at my GP's surgery which drug most people complained about she said Tamsulosin. I said and how about women. It's women who most complain about it she said.
I've taken Tamsulosin and Finisteride for nearly a year and have the same issue. If it continues post Rezum I'll have to discuss it withmy urologist.
Dr. gave me Finisteride & warns me about losing the feeling in sex as one of the side effects (listed on the internet). I asked him about possible ED with the medication & he said he has not known any. I have not tounch it yet & trying herbal at the moment instead & see. We should set up a new discussion asking for more real experiences between these BPH medications and BPH's herbals from someone has been thru.
