reducing Prednisolone

I went to see my nurse at the specialist rheumatology clinic, and she was very nice, i was told my Methotrexate was to be increased by 5mg, now on 15mg, BUT my pred was to be reduced by 1mg every week no tapering this means in 5 weeks i will be off steroids.

i have been following the DSNS method found to be ok doing this but i am concerened her way is too much. I would appreciate any feedback.

Also i have been told they want me to try Depo-Medrone 40mg has any one been on this please.

I look forward to your thoughts.

I had depo medrone 80mg by intramuscular injection 6 weeks ago nearly now and it has helped a lot, I am still on prednisolone 9mg and Plaquenil and started azathioprine so really have a cocktail of Meds now, but I am feeling better, the best I felt was after the depo medrone, but I think the azathioprine also benefiting me.

Hope this is of some help.

You already have a couple of replies to pretty much the same question here

If youa re on the depotmedrone it replaces the pred so reducing the oral stuff will be less of a problem - but you will have to watch out for adrenal insufficiency as the depotmedrone tails off as it does.

I am starting azsthioprine tomorrow, having stopped methatrexalate two weeks ago, due to horrible side effects... so hoping it will be better... I m glad it seems to be helping you.

Hi Mary

Yes I am only on half the dose I will be on but can feel a difference for some reason, maybe the inflammation is less, I don't feel like I'm being poisoned anymore and have coped with 4 11.5 hour relentless shifts, as I say I don't know what it is, it might not be the asathiaprine, but see how you go, it might be better than methotrexate, it is given for severe Sjogrens and Lupus too.

Very best wishes for it helping you.

Sorry Margaret I sent a message and put Mary,

HI Adette, fingers crossed...I live in hope xx
