Reduction

Doing the "DEAD SLOW " reduction, done 2 days at 9mg then back to the 10mg for another 5 days the first time on 9mg was not good, but the second time i felt ok,

The only problem apart from the shoulds and hump is this achining in the temple and around the eyes, last night was not good, i have had this for a full week now, but seeing the doctor on Wednesday so will let her know.

Had the Dexa Scan on wednesday so will see what that says.

Also i take it all the shaking is a sesult of the reduction.

Going for a walk today at the moment its raing, but we have been promised sunshine later.

Hi Margaret, I am sorry to hear you are not feeling the best.  It's good that you are seeing your dr. on Wednesday, write everything down before you see her.  When I am going to drs. I bring with me a list (it looks like a shopping list) it ensures that I don't forget anything.  I am due to reduce from 12.5 down to 10mg this week and I am a wee bit apprehensive but shall go with the flow.  You take care now.  Regards Pat

Hello margaret.just a thought when i got down to 10mg i reduced by 1/2 mg  1 day new 6  days old etc using the slow method rec by Eillen, with great success, my take on it was not to be tempted to rush.the weather is wet but like yours set to brighten up,we have a jazz festivle on in town so i hope to go& boogy on down, with family. hope things go well for you all the best. Dave

Good afternoon Pat,

I have been taking Prednisolone for about 18 months, and had some ups and downs. I have reduced from 12.5mg to 10mg this week, and go back to my doctor on 1/6. I certainly feel fine, but a bit apprehensive in case she wants me to reduce further at the moment.

Still, I am so happy that my prednisolone is on the way dow.

Kind regards,

Grace

Hi Margaret,

I just found out recently that when we're reducing using the DSAS method we should not take the lower dose two days in a row. At least that's what I got from the discussion,  which unfortunately  I've forgotten the name of (really love this memory thing).

Maybe someone will clarify that😋.

Good luck with your reduction and with your doctors appointment.

Hugs, Diana🌸

Diana: does this make more sense?

On the way down from "every day old dose" to "alternate days old/new" you won't be taking the new dose 2 days in a row. You are reducing the number of days in between at the old dose from 6 days to just one. THEN you start to build up the days of new dose between days of the old dose until you get to all new.THEN  you will be taking consecutive days of the new dose.

Get yourself a calendar and 2 highlighting pens (say pink and green):

Colour one day pink followed by 6 days green.

Then colour one day pink and 5 days green.

One day pink and 4 days green

One day pink, 3 days green

One day pink, 2 days green

One day pink, 1 day green

NOW, there is a change:

One day green, 2 days pink

One day green, 3 days pink

One day green, 4 days pink

One day green, 5 days pink

One day green, 6 days pink

All pink!

On GREEN days you will take the old (higher) dose.

On PINK days you will take the new (lower) dose.

Does this make it clearer?

Hi Grace thank you for message.  I just started taking the pred in November past 20mg and was on that for about 9 weeks, no appt at rheumy until March and I was in and out in 10mins, no bloods done.  I am so glad that your reduction is working for you, it does my heart good to hear that.

My dr. has left the practice and her and I got on like a house on fire.  Only for this forum I am actually going this alone.  No dr. appt.  No hospital appt. No Dexa scan but sure I am alive and breathing and was able to go a 20min walk today.  You look after yourself now.  Pat

I have sent you a PM.

Eileen, i have been ill in bed with vertigo, and am so confused, then i have seen a message about reduction and am confused even more. I hope this makes sense as i am shaking i dont know what to do and am scared

Sorry Margaret I'm not psychic - what are you confused about?

I think you need to see your doctor about the shaking.

Morning EileenH.just a short post to say after all the Brillo information i have recieved from yourself & others over the last 18months, big mistake on spelling of your name on prev post.one is so teribly sorry, Thanks & take care.Dave

Hi,hope everything goes is well in Italy I probably should know but does one immune disease cause another to worsen. My microscopic colitis has flared so the last 3 days ha e only been clear liquids then yesterday added a banana. Really weak and not sleeping well but colitis is better. I only use I'mmodium to control.Have been in bed all four days. Any suggestions welcome. I did use plant fiber to firm up stool yesterday. Pat

I imagine it might well do so - after all the immune system is just so messed up anything can happen. It's surprising the pred doesn't help though.
