Referred to neurologist for genital pain, what to expect?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I couldn't really pick a forum that suited this, so I went with sexual health because of the, er, "area" afflicted.

So in my ongoing journey to figure out my odd penile/pelvic pain, my doctor has now referred me to a neurologist because she believes it to be a nerve issue, of which kind she's not sure. Anyone have any insight into what I can expect? What kind of tests are done for genital/pelvic nerve problems? Thanks.

I can't say for sure, but I have been to one before and it usually involves testing with charged needles. Yes, that is right needles with electric current running through them. That is what they used on me to see where my nerves were sensing pain. Doesn't mean that is what they will do to you. There is a condition that me get that causes pain in that area. Has your doctor ruled out the urinary system as a cause? If so it can be caused by an inflammitory disease of the colon. I have a back injery that causes pain for me in that area.

If you've had a vasectomy in last ten years this can cause pain in groin and pelvis.

Try searching around the Pudendal Neuralgia Association website.
