Reinfection and chances of symptoms

Hello

I am unaware of whether I have previously been infected with HSV-1 (or 2).

I have recently kissed someone (passionately) with the mid-late stages of a cold sore on their mouth.

I've Googled the s**t out of this but can't find an answer except that I have most likely received the virus from this person.

(1) what are the chances of having any symptoms at all?

(2) if I was already (before encounter) infected with HSV-1, can this renewed 'infection' cause symptoms?
