Reintroducing Painkillers

Hi all another update from the UK by me a double Hip Replacement going into week 4 of my second hip replacement, and I am feeling better after the Blackpool Bug sought me out, but now, I am being more careful with the water I drink, and meticulous when brushing my teeth as that is how I caught the bug, I am sure...I have opted to try the painkillers again, the Blackpool Bug has caught me in the ribs, and the Tramadol are there, so today I have gone back on them, and feel fine now I have the second dose working away killing the pain.

Thing is I am noticing that I am walking better around my flat without the stick, not really waddling as I was keeping upright posture, a lot better without the stick, just for the odd little walk to the Kitchen or the bedroom when I forget to pick it up or leave it somewhere...As we do...Perhaps I was too fast taking the painkillers out of the general equation, or just a break was what I needed to see the difference in performance, but I got sick with the local bug at the same time as taking myself off of the painkillers.

I am feeling better and brighter, and will stay on the tabs now for a few days and then next week will take myself off of them again.

My calves measure the same, 21 inches each, and my thighs are different, my right side is 21.5 Inches in circumference, and my left is 21 inches, so there is half an inch at the moment difference on my stronger side, and I will re-measure next Friday to see and report to you all, for interested people, how keeping up the walking every other day, and bed exercises do promote quicker healing than most.

The High Protein diet continues Mackerel+ chips+ peas tonight for dinner, fresh from the market, just a small dinner, and looking forward to eating for the first time in a few days, poor wife, had the same dose of Blackpool Bug, is not a happy bunny, but the Mackerel will be such a nice change for our taste buds it will pique her taste sense and I hope bring her round after the last three days of tenuous suffering.

Thanks for looking in again on my patch, I will update or contribute again for sure over the weekend, kindest regards to you all.   Ian.

Hi Ian

Sounds like you are going well, slow but sure, but gosh you certainly did not need the Blackpool bug. Such a bummer.

Keep up the bed exercises! Can you put your own sox on yet perchance? And are you allowed a pint with the fish?!

Cheers

Mic

Hi Ian,

Sorry to hear about you catching the Blackpool bug.  Sounds pretty awful. Glad to hear you are well on your way to recovery.  Sending you healing thoughts and wishes for a complete return to good health and strength.

Jeanne

So sorry you have picked up this bug. I'm in East Yorks & keep hearing about the problems with the water supply in Lancs. Hope you are boiling your water & they get this sorted soon.

I looked up what the Blackpool Bug is and I did a quick inhale when I saw that it is cryptosperidium. Ohhhh, that's really bad. In the early 1990's Milwaukee Wisconsin had a huge outbreak, Here let me Copy & Paste

This abnormal condition at the water purification plant lasted from March 23 through April 8, after which, the plant was shut down. Over the span of approximately two weeks, 403,000[3] of an estimated 1.61 million residents in the Milwaukee area (of which 880,000 were served by the malfunctioning treatment plant) became ill with the stomach cramps, fever, diarrhea and dehydration caused by the pathogen. At least 104[3] deaths have been attributed to this outbreak, mostly among the elderly and immunocompromised people, such as AIDS patients.

That is a very nasty bug you have caught. It sounds like you are better but I wish your wife well. There are a lot of side effects of dehydration so I sincerely hope she can keep something in her soon. Don't hesitate to take her to the hospital, they will stick an IV in her and re-hydrate her and that type of rehydration doesn't seem to cause the nasua although she will be running to the bathroom.

So good to hear you back on line. That bug must have really hit hard in your home and so glad you are better and wishes for your wife to be better soon. Sounds like you are really doing well with the second hip replacement. How long a time frame between your surgeries? Anyhow sounds as if you will be a new man when all this is over.

All the best. June

Dear Ian ,

Thank you again to share your progress with us ...

May I ask where the pain you describe is coming from?  is it the new hip? How is the old one holding up? How are your nights?  are you sleeping on both sides?

On another topic, how did you prepare the mackerel?

Take ot easy, okay? you are doing great and can be proud of yourself ... and taking care of Sandy too - wish her well from me ...

warm hug and love
