Repeating words over

Was wonder if anyone struggles with repeating words, numbers or random things you hear , I have been doing it a lot lately in my head, to the point I don’t recall conversations people r having with me any one know what this is and a way to stop it is it ocd?

Sorry to hear you’re having this issue.
I was having more mental chatter and words repeating when gut issues were not being corrected, sensitive to some food dyes and sulphites. So I guess systemic inflammation and messing with the blood brain barrier.
Could be worth looking into .

Hi,

You stated “Repeating words over”, is this just to yourself or to others in general.

I also do it outloud , but wen I’m around people I learned how to stop myself because it looked like half the time I was talking to myself

Hello,

I hope you’re well. Please accept my apologies for not addressing you by name—I’m aware that many people prefer to remain anonymous on this platform, and I fully respect that choice.

The experience you’ve described—mentally repeating words, numbers, or phrases to the point that it interferes with your focus and memory—could potentially be associated with certain cognitive or psychological conditions. One such condition is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), particularly the “Pure O” subtype, where compulsions take place internally (such as mental repetition) rather than through visible behaviours.

That said, similar symptoms can also present in other conditions, including:

  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), which often involves frequent, intrusive thoughts,
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which can affect attention and lead to repetitive thought patterns,
  • and at times, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), where repetitive internal language or echolalia may occur.

Given the impact this is having on your daily functioning, I would strongly recommend scheduling an appointment with a GP or mental health professional. A thorough evaluation will help determine the underlying cause and whether any further action or treatment is necessary. Your doctor will be able to guide you through the next appropriate steps.

Regards,

Steve.
