After many consultations and investigation of alternative solutions for my severe BPH problem, I have elected to have a HoLEP surgery performed later this month. Obviously in preparation for that procedure I'm going to have a number of of preliminary tests and procedures performed, including but limited to a urodynamic study and a cystoscopy. While reading the patient education materials provided to me by the hospital/doctor, it occurred to me that I should reach out to all of you on here and see if you have any helpful insights on either or both of these two procedures. How severe are your symptoms ? Retention ?
i had the cystoscopy procedure and there was really no problem you don’t really feel any pain as its done but watch out after its done when you pee it will be very painful at the tip i almost fainted a few times but its only for a few days

please keep posting how the Holep procedure was and the results because my doctor also recommended the Holap procedure and i would like to hear from someone that had it

You were unfortunate to have that post cystoscopy problem . I’ve had two flexible ones without any later problems.
Very different from the rigid one I had in 1983.
Where are you having it done ? I assume in the UK from your user name. Procedures in UK hospitals seem greatly superior to the American experiences posted here.
I’ve had two laser procedures GL and Thulium/Holmium (similar to HoLep) and each was a piece of cake and life back to normal right away.
i had those tests done. no issues at all.
I had the cystoscope procedure and took a couple of Tylenol tablets before, so any pain was very minor. However, I did get a UTI a few days later and had to take an antibiotic. Also, there were some blood clots that I had to pee out for a couple of days. During the UTI I had to run to the bathroom about every 15 minutes, so I went through a couple of difficult days. If you get a UTI do NOT take Cipro - it can be dangerous. I may have had a reaction to the Cipro that I took after my cystoscope and will never take it again. One can get a UTI after any procedure that puts scopes into your urethra. It is a common side effect.

I had a painless flexible cystoscopy October 2016 and a very painful urodynamics procedure June 2017, both at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage. The urodynamics left me with a recurring e-coli urinary tract infection. This flares up every couple of months because I have urinary retention of around 65ml. I’m still taking Nitrofurantoin to deal with the infection. I would suggest that, if you suffer from urinary retention, you ensure that you are not intolerant to the anti-biotics used to treat UTIs.

I am more concerned about what either of these two procedure might find that would prevent me from having the HoLep procedure. Any thoughts on this?
That fooled me 
As far as I know the only common reason that will cause postponing the HoLep is if the cystoscopy or the urodynamics cause a urinary tract infection.
