Awake tonight too with swelling and itching . Sometimes I wonder if it will ever end. Then a good day comes along or a good sleep and I feel better. Sleep is major for healing I just lie and rest even if can't sleep . Good night
Hiya Jen,
Its three weeks tomorrow since my tkr and I am like you, Caroline is right with the sleep as I did manage two nights ago to get some sleep got up in the morning and fell asleep again so Its our bodies telling us we need to rest
Like you the twitching is painful, I look at it that the muscles are relaxing and trying to get back to some sort of normality, try to keep positive and take each day as it comes, and if you are tired then whatever time it is just try to sleep. Thinking of you Gill xx
Hi Jen
im up so if you want to talk then please feel free to do so.Gill xx
Eat food high in potassium or try Hyland restless legs as I have heard these work. the only other things are medication!
Hi
I have the r l syndrome before tkr
I also have very bad v veins.
My legs are unbearable not with pain but constantly prickly and needing to reposition.
Tonic water with quinne, Plenty of water, drink every time you wake and as much in day. Try tramadol before bedtime.
And yes bath, Leg massage, Hot orange/ or black currant drink.
But def. one 50 mg tramadol is the best result for quick fix.
Lots of other meds out there but with side effects.

Hi jenfid...I'm ten months post tkr. I had horrible trouble with rls, I was out of my mind, doctor tried everything, he ended up putting me on Quinine, he told me about the dangers, but I only took a very small dosage one tab at first, if I remember right, then slowly cutting it back to 1/8 of a tab after about six weeks. It was like magic, straight away first day, just amazing.
The only problem is I know it's a banned drug in some countries, it is here too except for Malaria (Australia) but I have a great doctor and I'm ever so thankful he allowed me to have it.
Yes, I also drank a bottle of Tonic water every day, look at the label to make sure it has Quinine in it.
I don't know if you could order Quinine tabs from overseas, but if nothing at all works it's a last resort fix.
Hiya jenfid, I get restless legs in bed too, have done on and off for many years..also sometimes when I'm just laying back in my chair watching a movie too...grr..my doctor asked me to look up the side effects it was the medication I was on for fibromyalgia..sure enough..it was that..and I'm only one med!!! he knew..but he also new that I always researched anything he told me...hope yours subsides too.. too. be blessed, have a lovely day..:-) xxx
Hi jenfid, I'm 4 weeks post tkr and I too suffer with rls. I've had it several years now but it is greatly relieved by my taking Pramipexole tables every evening, prescribed by my GP . I do still get it now post op but not so bad as if I didn't take the tablets.
I had this too. And the only thing that really helped me was to stand on my tip-toes and lower and raise my self to my heels. I'm not sure if I'm saying this so it makes sense. For me I felt it mainly in my calf muscles, so as I flexed them for a few minutes, it relieved this horrible twitching. I had both knees done at the same time, so I know what you are thinking. But you can do it.
Had a better night last night. went to Holland n Barratt yesterday got some magnisium oil , still felt restless but not as bad . slept all night so could be because I was so tired lol
Hi Jen, Glad to hear that you had a better nights sleep. For the past two nights I have been up at 2am, and then not sleeping by day as I don't want to get into a habit of sleeping by day, but at 10:00 am this morning I sucumbed to two hours of undistubled sleep, bliss is the only word to describe how I felt, so just take each day as it comes and eventually we will get there. Take care Gill x
I am eight weeks right tkr and one week left tkr
I too have restless leg and boy does it hurt
I tried the tonic water and it works!!!
So good luck out there and don't give up
Im still up knee's no better will try tonic water do you drink it all day or before bed ?
I used to drink it throughout the day and at bedtime as well as taking Quinine tablets. I think you might need more than just tonic water though, it only has a negligable amount of Quinine in it.
I had very bad leg cramps as well as the restless leg syndrome.
It is a terrible thing that the doctor's don't mention. When I asked my surgeon, he actually said that is not related to the tkr......yeah right! he should read this forum.
