hi everyone my husband had his op back in February. He is still struggling due to really badly swollen leg after op. It is getting better but very slowly. He is vey restricted in what he can do and is now getting very restless at night and not sleeping well, feels agitated. This is totally out of character for him. Has anyone else experienced this
good morning aj60 .... I am so sorry to hear that - there are so many things that can keep one awake at night - I am 8 weeks post op today and still find it hard to get a good night sleep ...is there any way anit anxiety or sleeping pills can be prescribed? I don't get them but have Dr. Vogel's extra stength night time pills and it helps me ... does he have other health problems? does he have pain? being physically restricted is so tiring but not in a good way ... maybe you can have him share his feelings on this forum .... I cannot tell you how much it means to me to be able to share with the fellow hippies - and to read their posts ... it definitely has made me feel less agitated, anxious, frustrated, fear ful etc ....
Big hug
I am 8 weeks post op tomorrow and still not sleeping as well as I would like. I find evenings the hardest part of the day and am usually irritable and edgy. This recovery is exhausting and by evening have about had the biscuit. I think this is quite normal but frustrating just the same. Getting comfortable is a challenge most nights
Hi
Sleeping at night is one of the hardest things to do after a THR. Mostg people seem to have problems even after the restrictions are lifted.
I moved int the spare room so asnot to keep my OH awake. He was still working at that time. I relaxed more when I knew I could move about as much as I wanted to.
What about the GP? Talk o him and see if he has any temoirary suggestions
As for herbal medicines.....be careful, I use them when I can but some of them clash with some meds I'm on. Make sure they are safe for whatever else he is taking. Dont just think "natural" so its OK.
Good luck

you are absolutely right eileen - I took them prior surgery but had to discontinue 7 days before the operation --- I got the okay to take them when I was discharged ... always check with your doctor or pharmacist ...
Good morning to you and all our hippies. I am 2 years post THR and from my experience what I did was massage. Also I found that sitting in a chair With leg up used to make my leg swell up I found it so much easier on my couch but I have had my couch raised to accommodate the hop restrictions. I'm also 9 weeks post TKR and I bought some vibro boots from America they are great for swelling if they can be used everytime you are sitting down. As I said I don't sit on a chair (probably because I only have couches hehe) and the physio is amazed how good my leg is and how much the swelling has reduced. These boots are amazing. I googled them on amazon and paid £55 including postage so if ypu decide to try them don't pay anymore. I honestly would recommend these vibrating boots to everyone who has had either THR or THR they are very safe. Plus my surgeon thinks they are great!
His agitation may come from pain medications.another thing people can experience is low sodium after surgery. If he continues with agitation, or memory loss or more sleepy than usual.ck with your primary doctor for testing sodium level in the blood n
