After being told by my GP for 15 years that I have IBS, I demanded a colonoscopy as my mother has ulcerated colitis and grandfather died of bowel cancer.
The results show after biopsy that I have inflammation of the large bowel, not the case with IBS. Is this likely to be colitis?
Did they only say this have you had a follow up appointment to discuss ?
Well I have been asking myself that question. Was told for 15 years that I had IBS C. There’s digestive issues on my mother’s side. 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis as I had rectal bleeding. I was put on medication which stopped the bleeding but I was still unwell. Recently, the consultant told me I didn’t have typical symptoms of UC and he referred me to a dietitian to follow the FIDMAP diet. I have been on it for 10 days and it is nothing short of a miracle. Flat stomach, no rumbling and I go painlessly every day. I can’t actually believe it. Does it mean I don’t have UC? Or does it mean I have it but the diet can keep me in remission? I am still taking the mesalazine and seeing him in December when all will be revealed I hope.
