Return to work?

am having t.h.r on 10th dec, just been signed off work now as its just too painful to walk/work (I work as a teaching assistant in a busy primary school). What would a realistic approach to returning to work be do you think? thanks x

i was in the same situation as you as I’m a primary school teacher in year 2. i had my op on 3rd January 2017 and started a phased return at the beginning of march so that i was back full time by the beginning of April. i took my stick with me mainly to remind the children that i was not quite back to normal. by the time i went back full time i was forgetting to use the stick and the children kept reminding me!!!
i hope this helps. good luck and enjoy you time off. one tip i was given was to do lots of walking to build your strength up.

Best of luck to you!!! I had my THR on 8/31 and returned to work on 10/1 with no problem except for being exhausted! I also work in a primary school. I didn’t need a cane but used the elevator. I’ll be having the other hip done end of January.

HI, I was a reception class teacher when I had my hip replaced, though I was job sharing, working 3 days a week which made it more manageable. I worked until the day before my op which I had in July 2016, I went in for meetings and to meet my new class, at about week 7, and then I started back properly at about week 11. I was only working 3 days a week though, and apart from my hip I was fit and healthy. I also had quite an easy recovery, though I do remember being v tired when I was first back at work! I think a phased return works well if your school would let you do that.
I wish you all the best, Judith.

I had a phased return to work agreed with my employer, starting at just 4 hours, 2 days per week.I worked in London and had a long commute on train, tube and bus.
I was back at full time in a month, but I did have a desk job.

hi
i had LTHR on march the 29th, and had the posterior approach where some muscle were cut, my recovery was quite slow i thought. I have a manual job i worked right up to the day before the op but was off work for just under 4 months afterwards. everyone recovers differently so you just have to be patient and dont go back untill you’re ready, and most importantly plenty of walking with your crutches and keep doing your excercises and you’ll be fine. good luck.

hi there,
I had my thr on 20 AUG and would honestly say after six weeks I felt great. however, this last week or so have been getting aches in my hip, possibly from overdoing things.
My advice, don’t rush it, these things take time.
Only you know how you feel, your body will tell you!
good luck (best thing I did!)
