Returning to life and work

Hello friends, hope you all are doing well in your recoverys. I am nine weeks out from a total hip replacement revision with screws! Was nonweightbearing for four full weeks and have gradually increased to walking with a cane this past week feeling a little better and attempting some light housework. Thing is after a while on my feet for going up-and-down the stairs I start to feel a little shaky and have lots of muscle fatigue Is this normal for the rest of you at two months plus question

I am having right hip total replacement 25th oct. U r scaring me 2 celaine

Definitely. I will be nine weeks tomorrow. I have been using just a stick for the last two weeks and what you describe sounds very similar to what I get.

I have started six six week gym course at the hospital to help with the strength in my leg.

U r scaring me as well adamjackman does anyone have possitive feedback

Hi Jeanette. This is just tiredness after being able to get around.

I have had months of being able to do very little, due to bone on bone pain.

The tiredness and slight wobble after exercise is a minor issue in comparison to the pain and inability to do anything.

The THR was the only option for me, after breaking my hip and an unsuccessful repair. My only other option was using a wheel chair, so to me this is all good progress.

Ok makes sense im a 54 year old very active woman still worki g full time and doing pilates and yoga and just gave up cycling . I feel that people only come onhere with negative comments what do u think

I was the same. Don't forget you've not used all of your muscles for a long time. The fatigue lasted a long time with me. Do a bit then having to rest. Don't worry about it. It will get better with time. The more you do the easier it will get xx

Coming up to nine weeks, I think you are doing well!  I use crutches in busy areas, still tied to a cushion but pain free hips!  Problems with swelling legs and get terribly shaky if

What age is everyone and do u still work

I overtax myself.  Keep up the good work!

Jeanette, I do, I do, ( have positive feedback)  I am in the US and 9 weeks ago had a lateral LTHR and am doing great!  My 11 inch incision has gotten so small and I barely even have a scar.  For me after week 3 I started to see big improvements, then by week 6 no looking back. No more cane though a slight limp during week 6, by week 8 no pain at all, occasional stiffness, no limp except late at night.  I sleep on my opposite side not on surgery side yet, I don't use a pillow between my legs, I go up and down stairs normally.  I won't say it was a breeze but it sure was worth it.  I was limping months before my surgery, and the pain killers post OP made me very depressed, I worried about everything before surgery, what type of anesthesia ... everything.   You will hear many stories here take the good bad and trust me you will one day have your own spin on it, but take your life back! Surgery can help you do just that.  I wish you peace and good juju!

All the best, Annette

64 and retired.

I'm 57 I am going back to work next mth. That'll be 6 mths I've been off. I've had trouble with swollen/ painful ankle and foot, also I have physical job.

Hi Jeanette, I'm 58, 12 weeks post op. I teach 4 and 5 year olds, cycle to work, feeling great. My whole experience was really positive. Where are you having your op?

Hi Celine, sounds as though you're doing well. Just take it steadily. Think a revision is more complicated than a replacement? Wishing you all the best.

We're not all negative. I'm 38 and just had a bit of bad luck, with a cycling accident.

I'm able to work from home so back at work after three weeks. It is now just building up stamina again to keep up my my three kids.

I am mid 40s and had THR 8 weeks ago.

I am walking up to 10000 steps per day unaided.

I had decades of disuse atrophy in my operated leg but with physio, a lot of walking and rest when needed I have seen huge improvements. My limp is now minimal. The circumference of my operated thigh is still 4cm less than my other one but the gap is closing.

What blows me away is that I can walk around the shops for 3 hours, get in my car for an hour and then get out and walk again without stiffness or pain. Pre op a couple of hours limping around the shops left me feeling like I had been bashed around my entire lower body with phone books. This would last for days.

Thanku possitive feedback adam im always glass half full not half empty x
